Job Description Summary
The Wildlife Damage Management Specialist, under general supervision, performs simple tasks requiring familiarity of biological, agricultural, and wildlife damage management operations. Conducts operations in accordance with local, State, and Federal laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
Provides direct control assistance for the prevention of damage caused primarily by aquatic animals. Direct control assistance is defined as the use of wildlife damage management techniques by specialists on private or non-private property for a specific period of time in response to a request for assistance with a wildlife damage problem.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with numerous agencies, organizations, institutions, industry groups, and individuals.
Frequently represents the agency at meetings, conferences, and workshops with these groups.
Modifies or adapts established wildlife damage techniques as necessary to meet local conditions and addresses specific environmental, economic or political considerations.
Must conduct all operations in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Must be able to discuss endangered species concepts, and be familiar with ranges of the varied threatened and endangered species that might come in conflict with any phase of wildlife damage management activities.
Provides basic instruction and training to inexperienced personnel in the use of wildlife damage management tools such as a wide variety of mechanical wildlife damage devices, chemicals, firearms, etc., and a variety of reporting procedures, field responsibilities, and other technical aspects of the program.
Gathers, compiles and evaluates data on damage or hazards caused by various wildlife species.
Assists other authorities in the monitoring of diseases and parasites that are transmissible to the human population, domestic animals, or property.
Prepares and submits routine and special reports regarding daily, weekly, or monthly activities, observations, events, and other relevant data.
Prepares management information system (MIS) documents weekly or as required. Documents must be prepared accurately and submitted timely.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong service ethic and desire to work with all audiences in assigned county, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin.Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Valid Driver's license and access to vehicle with current liability insurance.Other Requirements:
Must have access to personal vehicle and obtain/maintain valid Driver's license and appropriate liability insurance.
Must be willing to work necessary hours to fulfill job responsibilities (some evenings and weekends). Hours worked will not exceed 40 hours per week.
Must be willing to travel to required trainings.
