Job Description
Performs plant floor troubleshooting, training, problem solving, and root cause analysis for welding and joining processes
Knowledge and experience with:
o Resistance Spot Welding (steel and aluminum)
o Projection Welding
o Drawn Arc Welding and Brazing
o Mechanical Joining (self-piercing rivets)
o Sealer/Adhesive Dispensing processes
o Laser Welding
o Laser Brazing
o Automated Robotic Manufacturing and associated controls systems
Develops and implements predictive and preventive maintenance activities
Responsible for managing change control for Welding, Dispensing, Mechanical
Joining and Robot Systems.
Works with assigned personnel as required on current and future Body Shop assembly processes.
Reviews reports from destructive teardowns, in process weld monitoring checks, and maintenance process control sheets for corrective action requirements and compliance to Process Control Plans. Develops and implements countermeasures as appropriate.
Maintains welding and joining review wall, which provides a weekly summary of the current welding and joining performance for the body shop.
Supports the plant with new welding, mechanical joining and dispense equipment design, verification, and buyoff.
Coordinates installation and validation of welding and dispense equipment.
Maintains documentation control of product and process engineering records (Weld Monitor Reports, Weld Data Sheets, Weld Tool Information Sheets, Dispense Data Sheets, eBOP assembly documentation, Gauge Records, Weld Destruct Reports and Engineering Standards).
Capable of engineering, implementing, and validating projects to upgrade or replace welding and joining equipment.
Performs metallurgical cross section preparation and analysis per engineering standards.
Skills and Requirements
BS, Weld Engineering, Metallurgy, or Mechanical Engineering
o If they only have a mechanical degree, they must have manufacturing internship/experience
Desire to work in a manufacturing setting
OR
Engineering degree
5+ years of experience as a Welding Engineer null
