Job Description:Machine OperatorThe position requires a working knowledge of the procedures and techniques, materials, tools, equipment, layouts and set-ups used in the operation of CNC and other automated machining/fabrication equipment. Requires a basic knowledge of CNC equipment maintenance. Must have an in-depth knowledge of safe work practices. Requires sufficient human relations skills to receive and communicate technical instructions, orient new team members, and maintain harmony in a small work team of diverse backgrounds.Plans and participates in tool selection and work set up on multiple vertical and horizontal CNC mills.Sets up and operates numerical control machine to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications. Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedures, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished product.Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures the work piece in the fixture according to the setup instructions using clamps, bolts, hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments such as rules and calipers.Assembles and positions cutting tools in tool holders and spindles, or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazines.Loads machine-control media, such as disk, tape, or enters commands to retrieve previously programmed machine instructions.Manipulates controls and enters commands to index the cutting tool to a specified start point, then starts the machine. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions.Changes cutting tools and location of work pieces during the machining process as specified in the setup instructions.Measures work pieces for conformance to specifications, using measuring devices such as micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges.May adjust machine feed and speed and change cutters to machine parts when automatic programming is faulty. May machine materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber.Applies "Just in Time" production techniques to promote maximum machining operations.Maintains records related to CNC machine operations to provide up-to-date reference for programmers and designers.Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.Knowledge and SkillsThe position requires a working knowledge of the procedures and techniques, materials, tools, equipment, layouts and set-ups used in the operation of CNC and other automated machining/fabrication equipment. Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions, maintain routine records and interpret plans and specifications associated with CNC milling. Must be able to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately. Must have a willingness and be able to learn and participate in a cross-training environment. Must be able to handle multiple priorities in an ever-changing work environment, and produce products with short lead time.Physical AbilitiesRequires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk up to 400 yards, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 20-50 pounds on a regular
