Position Overview
The Vice President (VP) of Engineering is responsible for the planning, coordination, and oversight of operational engineering management including Design, Field, GIS, and Field Engineering teams. This position will identify complex business problems and create solution-oriented strategies. The VP will focus on improvement of processes, efficiencies, internal controls, and best practices, P&L, estimating, and regimented profitable growth.
This VP of Engineering has a strong foundation in management and/or executive-level leadership and successfully executing complex telecommunication and utility projects. This position is responsible for the management of client and project relationships, internal teams, strategic division planning and growth, and will monitor current and emerging market trends, challenges and opportunities. They work closely with all functional areas (i.e., Construction) to target regionally synergistic opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability. The role requires enthusiasm, a self-starter attitude, collaborative and communication excellence, and a drive to build scalable, dynamic engineering practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
● Responsible for all aspects of profit and loss for engineering projects
● Establish, implement, and communicate the strategic direction of assigned
departments and programs/projects
● Collaborate with executive leadership and other departments and divisions to carry
out the organizational goals and objectives providing reporting metrics to meet
business needs
● Plan, organize and monitor the overall program objectives. Utilize KPIs and metrics
to monitor the performance of teams to ensure all deliverables are completed
efficiently and as scheduled
● Leverage data and analytics to story-tell, recommend ideas, and drive solutions;
Make difficult decisions based on data and analytics
● Responsible for the day-to-day execution of all aspects of the clients’ engineering
projects. This includes engineering scope of work, financial metrics, planning,
schedule, quality, contractual compliance, safety, and client satisfaction
● Provide leadership to Directors of Engineering, Engineering Program and Project
Managers who are responsible for all aspects of a portfolio of FTTX engineering
projects with multiple clients; managing project deployment, project execution,
project safety, quality, cost, schedule and closeout. Manage changes and risk on
scope, cost, schedule, quality, and safety based on available resources and client
requirements
● Work with Business Development team to identify new opportunities and markets to
bid projects which will result in divisional growth and sustainability
● Play key role with management of new hires, training, performance evaluation, and
coaching management staff within division region
● Identify, develop, recommend, and implement new engineering operations-related
policies, practices, standards, processes, technologies, security measures, and
systems to drive efficiencies and cost containment and facilitate business objectives
● Support a culture where core values are the foundation of how clients, employees,
vendors and subcontractors all work together in the attainment of business goals
● Other projects or duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
● 10+ years of FTTX engineering experience, growing client relationships and leading
teams delivering turn-key solutions consistently on time and within budget with 5+
years in a leadership role
● BS degree in Business Management, Project Management, Engineering, or equivalent
level of experience in a leadership position within utility construction industry is
preferred
● Ability to operate at a strategic level, yet remain close enough to the details to add
value to clients and be a supportive resource to the team
● Strong background in competitively bidding, winning and successfully executing FTTX
engineering projects
● The ability to effectively lead and communicate clear expectations, goals, and vision
to a diverse group of team members at all levels
● Strong process orientation. Uses process implementation to drive efficiencies and
cost containment
● Experience leveraging data and analytics to story-tell, recommend ideas, and drive
solutions; Ability to make difficult decisions based on data and analytics
● Existing relationships with contractor/vendors a significant plus
● Dynamic leader and experienced team builder with a proven ability to build, lead,
and coach multidisciplinary teams
● Demonstrated ability to develop and grow a business unit in relation to clients and
project work on a year-over-year basis
● Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, fulfilling staffing requirements, training,
and safety compliance
● Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required; ability to
clearly, professionally, and effectively communicate and interpret technical
information
● Exceptional people skills to work with and motivate a diverse technical and
operations group as well as to build confidence with multiple AEG clients
● Positive, solutions-oriented attitude with strong analytical, and innovative problem-
solving skills; Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to completion in a fast-paced
environment while ensuring attention to detail
● Strong computer skills; Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Google Suite, and
Adobe software applications
● Ability to work after hours, some weekends, and evenings when needed
● Ability to travel as needed to perform duties of the position up to 50% of the time
Physical Requirements
● Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, driving a vehicle,
and/or standing
● May experience long hours of standing and moving
● Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
