The Cancer Immunology (CI) Lead is responsible for leading cancer immunology drug discovery programs (comprising tumor immunity, T cell biology, ADC immunology and innate immunity) to support the execution and diversification of the Oncology Research and Development (ORD) IND pipeline.
The incumbent will be an established scientific leader passionate about discovering and developing breakthrough oncology therapies with the potential to alter clinical practice and transform cancer patients' outcomes. Leading a large team of scientists, the CI Lead will be responsible for developing the Pfizer Oncology cancer immunology pipeline strategy, allocate resources, prioritize efforts, and align with leaders elsewhere in the Oncology Research Unit (ORU) and in Early Clinical Development to advance innovative drugprograms to the IND pipeline.
The CI Lead will act as a cancer immunology subject matter expert to lead and mentor a team focused on relevant drug discovery efforts, communicate complex scientific ideas to senior leaders and represent the cancer immunology strategy and portfolio programs to internal and external key opinion leaders.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for leading discovery/preclinical research activities across cancer immunology to deliver a pipeline of novel candidate therapeutics.
Accountable for discovering therapeutics that partner the most promising targets with the right technology to support our IND engine.
Expert in preclinical therapeutic discovery with the ability to lead, develop, and mentor a large team of scientists focused on tumor immunity, T cell biology, myeloid biology, ADC immunology and innate immunity.
Independently manages work across the research organization. Alongside other ORU leaders and partner function leaders, plans and aligns resources aimed at expanding our understanding of target biology, cancer immunology, therapeutic MOAs, and model development to create best and/or first in class therapeutics.
Supervises research project teams to ensure delivery of key research activities necessary for making efficient go/no go program decisions.
Collaborates with cross-functional leaders and teams to translate early preclinical discovery research into therapeutic candidates.
Coordinates with business development to establish strategic external collaborations and foster new research projects and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD with 15+ years of experience in biotechnology and/or postdoctoral research focused on discovery and drug development in a leadership role.
10+ years leading and directly managing teams within the biopharma industry.Ability to provide candid feedback, coach, mentor, and develop staff.
Strong track record of advancing novel Immunology Oncology (IO) drugs from conception to IND, preferably, including ADC experience.
Subject matter expert in cancer immunology with a significant publication record in the field.
Ability to absorb and integrate information and succinctly relay critical information to relevant stakeholders.
Thorough knowledge and expertise in preclinical drug discovery and understanding of the oncology landscape.
Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong collaborator across teams and a variety of disciplines; effective at building alliances across functions.
Ability to think strategically and proactively identify problems and develop solutions to move projects forward.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $239,300.00 to $387,200.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 30.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
