Third-Party Claims Administrator for national insurer seeks a Vice President to work out of its office in Woodbury, New York (hybrid schedule - minimum 3 days per week in office required). The selected individual will be responsible for training, managing, and mentoring a team of adjusters handling both pre-litigation and litigated general liability insurance claims arising under policies that insure commercial real-estate owners of properties located throughout New York City and Long Island.
Specific Responsibilities : include, but are not limited to:
(1) Ensuring that Claims Adjusters are providing superior customer service to meet the needs of the insureds, claimants, brokers and the carrier
(2) Monitoring and providing instructions to Claims Adjusters
(3) Reviewing files and reporting claim details and analysis
(4) Reviewing and confirming the coverage analysis of the Claims Adjusters including the approval of reservation of rights, coverage denial letters and tenders to other carriers
(5) Assisting Claims Adjusters in assessing bodily injury and property damage settlement amounts based on independent judgment and industry experience
(6) Advising Claims Adjusters in assessing potential risk transfer to third-parties as well as potential subrogation opportunities
(7) Reviewing and approve reserves and settlements above the Claims Adjusters' authority;
(8) Drafting Large Loss Reports to be submitted to the carrier where appropriate
(9) Reviewing status of open files to ensure compliance with Best Practices guidelines, as well as client carrier claim handling requirements
(10); Recognizing and advising Claims Adjusters of applicable jurisdictional issues that impact the claim (i.e.: negligence laws, statutes of limitations, venue requirements, etc.)
(11) Providing Claim Adjusters with guidance and mentoring in investigation of facts to establish negligence, determine liability, and to identify other sources of recovery as appropriate
Qualifications :
A minimum of 5 years commercial claims technical claim handling experience or equivalent experience (i.e., insurance defense work or in-house risk management) is required. Also: Strong verbal and written communication skills General software skills including MS Word, Outlook and Excel Solid analytical and decision-making skills in order to evaluate claims and make sound decisions Excellent negotiation skills and ability to effectively handle conflict Strong organization and time management skills Ability to manage others, multi-task and adapt to a changing environment Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy Strong investigative skills and creativity to achieve optimal results Benefits : Training/Development and Growth opportunities Competitive salary 401(k) with company match Comprehensive health plans Strong work/family and employee assistance programs Flexible work hours The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 to $115,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience, and work location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope, and level.
