POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATIONThe City maintains a safe drinking water system comprised of approximately 550miles of pipe including many appurtenances such as valves, hydrants andmeters. The Utilities Operator II / III position with the Water Distributionteam is responsible for managing small teams to perform routine maintenance,leak investigations, make repairs or replace pipe and appurtenances in theCity's safe drinking water system. This position is semi-skilled to skilledlabor in the operation of a variety of light and heavy construction andmaintenance equipment used to repair or replace water lines. This positionrequires high public contact in all types of situations.
Operating Hours are Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Itis a mandatory requirement of this position to work overtime, take weekendduty and be on call for emergency work such as water breaks, sewer backupsand snow removal. Applicants must be able to respond to the City ofWestminster Municipal Service Center within 30 to 45 minutes when on call,including in inclement weather. This is a safety sensitive position subject tofederally mandated random drug and alcohol testing.
Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and CertificationsRequired:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GEDMinimum two (2) years of experience in water (preferred) or wastewateroperations and maintenanceMust possess a valid driver's license, provide proof of a safe drivingrecord, and maintain a safe driving record for continued employmentMust possess a Commercial Driver License with the following endorsements:Air Brakes, Tanker, and Combination Vehicle/Class A LicenseMust currently hold a Colorado Class 1 Distribution State Certification andconsistently be testing to obtain a Class 2 Distribution State Certificationwithin 12 months of hire (or eligible for reciprocity)Incumbent can progress from Utilities Operator II to Utilities Operator IIIonly upon the receipt of a State of Colorado Class 3 Distribution StateCertification along with the request of the immediate supervisorMinimum two (2) years of experience in the operation of a wide variety oflight and heavy equipment used in utilities construction and maintenance work
Preferred:Three (3) or more years of experience in the operations and maintenance ofwater distribution systemsAdditional education such as college level course work or vocational tradeschoolCPR/first aid knowledgeCertified for working in the field for the following: confined spaceentry, gas detection, Asbestos awareness, cement pipe awareness, andflagger trainingExperience in the operation of light equipment used in construction ormaintenance work, operation of sewer equipment, and water distributionmaintenance techniques
