The Lead Counsel role for Legal Investigations will primarily be responsible for leading the most complex and significant internal investigations resulting from allegations of potential violations of the Company's standards of conduct worldwide as well as government requests/inquiries. The Lead Counsel will direct investigative teams of attorneys (Senior Counsel and outside counsel) and investigators on matters and provide training and guidance on best practices. The Lead Counsel will also be assigned to case manage the most significant legal investigations. The position will lead briefings of senior executives and provide guidance and support on accountability and remediation. The Lead Counsel will also represent the Company on the most significant enforcement actions and regularly interface with government agencies. The position will be responsible for not only evaluating enterprise risk to determine the appropriate resources needed to investigate a matter but also proactively identifying new areas of risk.
You'll make an impact by:
Providing legal advice to the Company by providing clients with an informed understanding of the client's legal rights, obligations, and risks to allow the client to make informed decisions
Collaborating with senior executives on significant risks; seeking authority and obtaining informed consent to proceed with legal matters
Partnering with Compliance and Business to define best practices and policies to ensure compliance with state & federal laws and regulations to mitigate corporate risk
Identifying, prioritizing, and managing risks to the company by engaging and supervising outside counsel and collaborating with clients to develop mitigation strategies
Successfully collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to encourage and continue proactive engagement of in-house counsel
What you'll bring:
You have substantial, diverse legal experience including federal prosecutorial or regulatory experience or internal investigations experience (ex. combination of in-house, government, leading law firm, etc.)
You empower your business partners while working collaboratively to achieve cross-functional goals within a corporate environment
You leverage technology to streamline processes, communication and workflows
You have a proven track record of risk identification, assessment, and mitigation
You empower other members of the Legal team to operate with autonomy while adhering to the standards that have come to define the Walmart brand.
You have strong communication skills to interact with senior leadership and stakeholders
