Under the broad direction of the Radiologist, the Staff sonographer will perform ultrasound examinations on selective portions of the anatomy as requested by the clinician. The Staff Sonographer is expected to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures with knowledge and ability for the purpose of obtaining diagnostic quality studies. Responsible to obtain patient history and appropriate clinical data to aid in proper diagnostic correlation. Must be able to work scheduled and "On-Call" hours, if necessary. Qualifications include, graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation Program or equivalent on-the-job training program as approved by Chief of Services, Imaging Department. Certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Ultrasonographers or equivalent desirable, but not required; one year experience as a sonographer; familiarity with ultrasound equipment; must have an understanding of pathology, including a knowledge of diseases, anomalies and abnormalities which influence performance of procedures; familiar with CRT/hospital computer systems; excellent communication & organization skills; diplomacy, tact, and a positive approach to problem solving.
