  Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have one year of clerical, secretarial, or direct care experience in a mental health facility or setting and will be appointed to Treatment Unit Clerk Trainee. After successful completion of a six-month traineeship, you will automatically advance to the Treatment Unit Clerk, SG-7. Examples of qualifying settings include but are not limited to: inpatient and outpatient psychiatric or mental health clinics, facilities, or units; and substance abuse clinics or programs. Examples of non-qualifying settings include but are not limited to: facilities or programs serving the developmentally disabled; hospitals, clinics, or other settings providing general medical care or rehabilitation; and nursing homes.ORTransfer Opportunity: Candidates must have permanent status as a Treatment Unit Clerk, SG- 7, and be eligible for a lateral transfer; or have one year of permanent service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

  Duties Description As a Treatment Unit Clerk, you would work on a ward or unit of a psychiatric center and be responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and monitoring of a variety of clerical records and reports related to the activities of employees and patients in the assigned work area. You would also be required to respond to routine inquiries regarding the functions/programs of the unit or treatment service from visitors or employees and patients from other areas of the facility. Responsibilities may also include ordering and maintaining an inventory of unit supplies and performing miscellaneous clerical duties necessary for the efficient operation of the assigned work area. Depending on the organization of the facility, you might have responsibility for performing these functions for a building, treatment unit, service ward, or group of wards. In all cases, you would be assigned to work in patient areas.NOTE: 1. In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program.) If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.

  Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.Additional Comments:This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,087.Salary reflects starting salary for grade 6 to ending salary of grade 7.
