About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].
This position will support FEU’s NERC PRC-005 Maintenance Program and substation maintenance practices. PRC-005 is a NERC reliability standard that defines the requirements to ensure reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System (BES). Specifically, PRC-005 is the maintenance program for FEU’s protection systems, automatic reclosing, and sudden pressure relaying maintenance. Substation maintenance practices are technical documents that provide guidance on safe and effective maintenance and testing along with prescribed maintenance intervals. Candidates filling this position will support a variety of projects and initiatives associated with PRC-005 and the substation maintenance practices.
The reporting location can be any of the FE facilities. The Candidate for this position is considered mobile, with most of the week working from home and the possibility of traveling to an FE facility on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities include :
Collaborating with internal staff, supervisors, and managers in PRC-005 related initiatives, meetings and discussions.
Reviewing and following up on maintenance orders to identify equipment issues or incomplete documentation.
Coordinating, facilitating, and managing PRC-005 related meetings, action items and presentations
Performing data analysis and risk reviews to support PRC-005 related controls as well as assisting in the development of new controls as required
Supporting regulatory investigations including developing, drafting, reviewing, and tracking self-report documentation and associated mitigations plans
Evaluating maintenance deferrals for compliance implications
Supporting PRC-005 audit preparation, execution and follow up as needed
Managing substation practices and other technical documents including tracking current and future practice revisions to align with the 3-year plan
Actively seek formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand departmental processes and procedures
Supporting the emergency plan through participation in assigned storm duties, including hazard
responding.
Creating an environment of accountability and a sense of urgency for meeting agreed-upon expectations/deadlines
Willingness to travel throughout the FirstEnergy system including periodic overnight stays
Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of exposures, industry regulations, and operating experiences.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent is preferred OR closely related degree from an ABET accredited institutionwith a minimum of 3 years of related experience required.
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 5 years related experience required. Related experience may include regulatory compliance, utility experience, substation maintenance, protective relay experience, system planning, distribution technician, distribution/transmission planning and scheduling

A working knowledge of electrical engineering, transmission substation equipment, transmission system protection and transmission system operations is preferred.
A general knowledge of regulatory requirements from both state and federal agencies that impact the design, maintenance and operations of transmission and distribution substations is preferred.
Strong knowledge of general compliance documentation and audit procedures as well as Regulatory audit processes is preferred.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Familiarity with either or all is preferred- Cascade / PowerBase / RTS / Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA) / SAP / PowerBI
