The Transmission Planning Engineer 3 performs planning on projects of moderate complexity in the assigned electrical engineering field for the safe, reliable and effective installation and operation of the transmission and subtransmission systems.
Responsibilities:Performs specific design, engineering, economic, and investigative assignments, and planning for the installation, revision or rehabilitation of facilities for projects of varying complexity.Performs system modeling, load flow, dynamic, transient stability analyses, generation interconnection, and other technical studies to enable integrated system planning. Prepares reports with conclusions and recommendations on findings.Conduct long-term, near-term, and seasonal planning studies of transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution systems using appropriate criteria to assess adequacy and security of systems and maintain compliance with NERC Reliability and DLC Planning criteria.Prepare business plans/projects to document system needs and to allocate capital resources to appropriate mix of new business, improvement, rehabilitation and structured maintenance projects.Assists other engineers with studies of higher technicality to help fulfill departmental goals and objectives.
Education/Experience Required:Roles at this level require an ABET-Accredited, 4-year Electrical Engineering degree (BSEE) or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an institution with an ABET-Accredited Electrical Engineering program
Education/Experience Preferred:Engineer In Training (EIT or FE) CertificationA Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an institution with an ABET-Accredited Electrical Engineering program is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Experience with power system simulation software such as PSSE, CYME, Synergi, SINCAL, PSCAD, EMTP, etc.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.Strong attention to detail.Adaptability, flexibility, and comfort with working in a fast-paced environment.Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage various priorities.Prompt executor.Ability to lead complex projects.
Additional Requirements:In-office and field activities are driven by occasional role-specific tasks and critical business processes.Must be able to work in various substation facility conditions (walking on uneven ground, climbing ladders, working safely nearby energized equipment, etc.) as required.Desk and computer work is required.Must possess valid driver's license and be able to drive to various company locations.Limited travel as required
