Become a Test Engineer 3, Remedial Action Scheme (RAS) in the Relay/Automation Operations group at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will be part of Test & Technology's Relay/Automation Operations group within Substation Construction and Maintenance (SC&M) organization. The Test Engineer will play a key role in the execution of renewable energy Grid Interconnection projects that are essential in enabling SCE's delivery of safe, reliable, and clean energy to our customers and enable the realization of our Clean Energy Pathway 2045.

Develop/Review Test plans and procedures for Remedial Action Schemes (RAS) commissioning process. Provide remote and onsite technical support and guidance with the applicable test requirement for RAS and resolve field technical issues. Author RAS testing technical reports, present the findings & lessons learned to internal partners, and transfer knowledge to operational teams. Assist the Centralized-RAS team in performing scenario testing in the development environment/Quality Assurance System (QAS) to validate and qualify CRAS analytics before migration to the production environment. Develop and mentor junior engineers in the Relay/Automation Operations group.
Qualifications
The essentials
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or STEM field. Five years or more of engineering experience in an electric utility. Valid U.S. driver's license.
The preferred
Master's degree electrical engineering with a "Power System" focus. Experience testing power systems protection, automation and control schemes. Knowledge of System/Substation One-Line Diagrams, relay elementary diagrams (AC, DC and Logic), and wiring schematics. Knowledge of digital logic (logic gates, latches, etc.) and experience interpreting complex logic diagrams. Experience with Protection Settings and Energy Management System (EMS). Experience with protective relay testing and commissioning process and familiarity with testing equipment and software (e.g., Doble F6150sv & F8000 Test Sets, Doble Protection Suite, GE's Enervista UR Setup, SEL's acSELerator QUICKSET etc.). Experience testing of IEC 61850 standard protocols including GOOSE/ R-GOOSE, Sampled Values and Routable Sampled Values and MMS communications. Knowledge of applicable NERC testing standards for substation protection systems. Effective decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with industry technology and innovation. Excellent computer skills with knowledge in Python and SQL programming is a plus.

This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties. Position will require traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory and may include overnight stays. Relocation may apply to this position.
