Position Title: Communications Specialist - “Some College, No Degree” Initiative (Part-Time Temporary)

Job Description:
The Communications Specialist for the “Some College, No Degree” (SCND) Initiative will join a team working to attract and support students who have previously left college prior to earning a degree, to encourage them to return to college and successfully progress toward graduation. This part-time Communications Specialist will be responsible for the overall strategy-informed communication plan including the creation of all immediate and long-term communication resources to engage and support newly returning students and currently re-enrolled students. This Communications Specialist will create and maintain dedicated communication resources such as marketing materials, the re-enrollment website, and ongoing communication with SCND students, customized for their needs and experiences. The materials and content created by the SCND Communications Specialist will serve as foundational pieces that will continue to be used and updated by student success and communications professionals.
This is a part-time hourly position (up to 28 hours per week, $25 per hour) funded by a grant from New Jersey’s Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) and extends through June 30, 2024. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Work with functional units across the division to learn processes and determine communication needs for both newly-returning students and those already re-enrolled at Rowan.
Design and maintain an easily accessible, engaging and informative re-enrollment website to attract newly returning students and to engage and support currently re-enrolled students including testimonials from re-enrolled students.
Design and disseminate marketing materials (print and digital) to promote available services and programs including accessible academic programs and alternate credit opportunities.
Create and maintain ongoing communication with SCND students, customized for their unique needs and experiences.
Create social media content and post to multiple social media platforms.
Develop creative ways to promote divisions’ SCND initiatives to newly-returning students and those already re-enrolled as well as faculty and staff.
Create operational calendar and strategy-informed communications related to returning students and currently re-enrolled students.
Engage in professional development opportunities related to the Some College No Degree population, including staying current with retention-related issues and initiatives.
Help divisional units refine SCND messaging and create language/visuals for internal, student, and parent communication.
Use data, metrics, and reports to improve SCND communication efforts including monitoring website and social media analytics.
Position may require some evening and weekend activities.
Other duties and support tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communications strategy and content in multiple platforms.
Familiarity with use of digital communications tools, including social media, text and email communications, content management systems, and automated communications workflows.
Excellent writing skills to create documentation, training materials, and reports.
Ability to learn and adapt to new technology, procedures, policies, and processes.
Successful experience building collaborative partnerships within a wide variety of constituencies.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
Experience collaborating with people from diverse racial, ethnic, multigenerational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in writing, communications, or a related field)
Experience with social media management.
Graphic design experience
Video production experience
Familiarity with Adobe Suite products
Advanced knowledge of design and publishing concepts
