Job Purpose and Overview
In this role, you will lead a team of product technical writers within the Technical Communications team to ensure our customer-facing documentation is comprehensive, concise, and created with a user-centric approach. The Technical Communications Manager is responsible for driving change within a team of technical writers as we embark on a journey to deliver multi-sensory adult learning content that allows customers to thrive using Appfire's software solutions and applications.
The Technical Communications team empowers worldwide customers to implement and use Appfire products through transformative and dynamic learning solutions. We deliver immersive adult learning experiences by combining cutting-edge technology with innovative content creation methods. Our goal is to communicate complex technical concepts in a manner that makes them easy to understand. To reach this goal, we are researching, implementing, and creating standards for content creation and delivery tools.
What You Will Do
Partner with product management, engineering, marketing, and other technical communications team leaders to determine the most effective methods for presenting technical content to Appfire customers.Manage a team of Technical Writers of varying cultures and in different countries, fostering a climate of growth and ongoing collaboration.Understand the projects being planned and completed by technical communications team members. Identify content team members should present in a multi-sensory format and encourage writers to adopt user-centric approaches to every task.Maintain the department's Style Guide and assist in creating technical communications standards, ensuring all content follows guidelines for clarity, tone, consistency, presentation, and grammar.Experience evaluating, prototyping, and installing Content Management Systems that focus on delivering relevant, timely, and impactful content to internal and external customers.Compile and analyze analytics that illustrate how customers use technical content. Based on data, make recommendations on how to utilize and deploy resources to assist customers in successfully installing, learning, and deploying Appfire products and solutions.Coach, develop, and meet regularly with direct reports to review projects, performance, and personnel issues.Review and validate team members' work to ensure high quality and identify if additional training is needed.Recruit, train, and coach new employees.
What We Would Like to See
2+ years of experience managing technical writers.7+ years of experience creating technical content for a large and broad audience, including experience with multimedia tools, including Techsmith Camtasia, Adobe Audition, Loom, Arcade, and Streamyard. Plus, a working knowledge of Confluence.Proven track record of driving change in a technical communications department.Effective team builder who implements processes that allow team members to make tremendous impacts across the organization.Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with a global team.Ability to foster collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams.Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet target dates without overlooking tasks or issues.Keen attention to detail in planning, organizing, and executing tasks while seeing the big picture and understanding how all the pieces fit together.Ability to learn, comprehend, and communicate technical concepts effectively.
