Job Description Primary Function of Position
As a member of the Services organization, the Technical Writer ensures that development, delivery, and maintenance of technical Field Service documentation is consistent and compliant with product support needs and company guidelines. The Technical Writer produces accurate, clearly presented, consistent documentation on time for product releases, and requires no day-to-day instruction or general instruction for new assignments. The Technical writer should be highly skilled in the development and maintenance of technical documentation.
This position is required to be on campus a minimum of 3 days a week with both office and laboratory working environments.
Roles and Responsibilities
Plans, writes, edits, and maintains Field Service documentation (i.e., Field Service procedures and technical bulletins) for medical device systems.Complete documentation control steps to release final documentation. This includes Change Orders in the documentation control system.Informs and adheres to policies, procedures, and quality documents. Collaborates with project team members to share knowledge and best practices.Uses skills as an experienced technical communication professional with understanding of industry best practices and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.Evaluates, recommends, or develops documentation process and productivity aids. Minimum 5 years’ technical writing experience in a hardware or engineering environment, including documentation for various technical audiences.Minimum Bachelor's degree in engineering sciences, professional writing, or equivalent preferred.Strong writing and grammar skills in areas of content development by using minimalist, topic-based writing style. Analytical ability to swiftly grasp and effectively communicate complex scientific and engineering concepts for intended audiences.Strong organizational and project-management skills with ability to participate in project discussions and manage deliverables for multiple projects under tight deadlines, set priorities, and manage time effectively.Understanding of mechanical/hardware concepts and complex devices.Previous experience with medical devices preferred.Experience with DITA XML authoring tools. PTC Arbortext Editor or IXIASOFT CCMS highly desired.Experience with current versions of standard authoring tools, including Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop; and Microsoft Excel and Word.Professional references and writing examples expected.
