Role Description:
We are looking for a highly motivated and tech-savvy Technical Writer Intern to join our team at Intuit. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop valuable skills in creating technical documentation and instructional content. You'll work closely with team members to enhance the usability of our technical documentation and contribute to the overall improvement of the developer experience. This position may also help with content and communication for our development community and developing tools to present our documentation and publications in innovative ways.
We are seeking an individual who can think creatively, collaborate with product teams, and effectively communicate complex technical concepts with clarity, consistency, and simplicity – in a way that is both easy to understand and engaging.

What you'll bring
About You:
Pursuing a degree in technical writing, computer science, or a related field
Current enrollment in a degree-seeking undergraduate program, with an anticipated graduation date no earlier than December 2024
Exceptional written communication skills, with strong design aesthetics as it relates to the visual communication of information
Strong ability to write clear and effective technical content tailored for developer audiences
Able to work independently and cross-functionally, with the capacity to quickly learn new skills
Comfortable interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Knowledge of technical writing standards and familiarity with common style guides
Driven and a self-starter; curious and enjoys solving hard problems
Desire to work in a structured authoring environment such as DITA/XML, markup, or HTML
Familiarity with Git and GitHub
Experience using authoring/content creation tools such as Medium, Wordpress, Oxygen XML Editor, OpenGrok, etc.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Bonus:
Experience writing technical content, documentation, or tutorials
Experience or exposure to modern software languages (like React, Python, Java, JS) and use of APIs
Portfolio of writing samples, including examples of documenting complex systems for expert audiences
Background in development
Experience writing for systems without a GUI
Hybrid 2/week Toronto office.

How you will lead
Specific responsibilities and projects will be assigned at the beginning of the internship and may include:
Assist the Developer Relations Team in creating clear and informative content that educates users of the Intuit Development Portal's features and functionality.
Develop clear and concise contextual/point-of-need help and learning content from documentation to technical blog posts
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other team members to gather functional details and obtain technical reviews for documentation.
Contribute to the improvement of existing documentation by providing valuable feedback and recommendations.
Participate in team initiatives to establish style and process guidelines for documentation creation.
Occasionally contribute to internal documentation and provide input into tool and usability decisions.
Plan, help write, and review documentation for new product features and functionality in collaboration with Engineering according to Intuit Development guidelines.
Partner with devs to fully understand their plans, processes, and institutional knowledge, and record it all for posterity.
Organize internal-facing documentation to onboard new developers and to help experienced developers find detailed explanations.
Identify documentation gaps and problems, prioritize them, and implement solutions.
