Job Description
Day to Day Responsibilities:
* System Upgrades and Patching: Plan and execute system upgrades, updates, and patches in a timely and efficient manner, minimizing downtime and disruption to users.
* Automation: Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and processes. Implement scripting and automation solutions to streamline administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
* Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional IT teams, developers, and stakeholders to provide robust support for a range of projects and initiatives. Offer invaluable technical guidance and expertise throughout the entire system design and implementation process. Effectively address and resolve issues flagged in ITS Service Desk tickets, simultaneously enhancing customer satisfaction through clear and proactive communication strategies.
* Security and Compliance: In coordination with the Cybersecurity team, manage campus endpoint security services, working with desktop support team to ensure effective operation of software (EPP, EDR). Additionally, perform system level security hardening of new and existing servers and systems.
* Documentation: Create and maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures. Provide detailed technical documentation for troubleshooting and knowledge sharing.
* Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for optimization. Implement performance tuning measures to enhance system responsiveness and efficiency.
Skills and Requirements
Must Haves:
* 3-5 years of experience as a Systems Administrator within Linux & window server environments and troubleshooting
* Experience with directory, authentication, and file/print services, such as OpenLDAP, eDirectory, Active Directory, FreeRADIUS, OES, CUPS/iPrint, etc.
* Experience with scripting languages, such as Perl, Python, Windows, and Linux shell.
* Experience administering Apache web server and common web applications (WordPress, Apache proxy, etc.).
* Soft skills very important: communication, teamwork, problem-solving, working independently.
* Knowledge of database concepts. Plusses:
* Experience with higher-ed ERP solutions: (Ellucian's Banner, Datatel or PowerCampus; PeopleSoft, or WorkDay)
* Experience with server virtualization technologies (VMware, etc.).
* Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining system integration and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.).
