The Sustainable Design Specialist role will support this value-based foundation in collaboration with the Director of Sustainable Design, Thrive@EC, and project teams. The position involves close collaboration with architects, engineers, planners, and interior designers on projects of all sizes and across multiple market sectors.
Essential Functions (What you will do):Support project-specific environmental performance by training designers and assisting with more complex project workflows involving: early energy modeling, daylight analysis, and building life cycle impacts; data collection for sustainability commitments in accordance w/ the EwingCole Sustainability Action PlanDevelop sustainability concept reports and presentations in support of current and future projectsSupport and leadership of early project goal settingAssist our Digital Technology group to evaluate, create, and implement new tools, software, and workflows that streamline our sustainability processes and improve our analysis capabilitiesSupport Thrive@EC through research on topics and initiatives including but not limited to the following: Material selection criteria; Building envelope and structure; Building energy use and electrification; Cross-cutting topics such as wellness and resiliencyFacilitate and assist with sustainability and wellness certifications such as LEED, WELL, and FitwelRequirementsKnowledge of sustainability, building science, building certifications, and industry commitments to GHG emissions reductionAbility to guide sustainability and energy reduction strategies through accurate modelling of building and systems designAbility to coordinate with multiple teams and multiple projects simultaneouslyAbility to creatively participate in multi-discipline, collaborative team environmentStrong presentation and communication skills - verbal, written, and graphicExperience with environmental software: Cove.tool, Ladybug Tools, Tally, and/or other energy, daylight, or life cycle impacts modeling software tools required; Experience with WUFI, LBNL THERM, and LBNL WINDOW is a plus, and required within first 12 months.Experience with design software: Proficient with Revit; Working knowledge of Rhino and Grasshopper; Emphasis on importing and exporting geometry and using parametric workflowsProficiency with basic Microsoft Office programsPreferred 4-6 years of experience working in an architectural or allied design or construction field.Certification or professional licensing in an energy/sustainability field (e.g. LEED, CEM, WELL, etc.) preferred, required within first 12 months.Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field. Master's Degree preferred.Detail-oriented, curious, and eager to actively participate in firm culture that emphasizes continuous improvement and integrated design process.Work Environment:Hybrid work environment with three days in office
