Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities This is a supervisory position in the Behavioral, Acute, and Residential (BAR) section. Clinical and supervisory responsibilities for this position are related to hospital-based psychiatry to include inpatient psychiatry, consult-liaison services, psychiatric emergency services, as well as residential treatment programs. Clinical duties (70%) Functions independently as a member of the VA ECHCS Medical Staff, with full clinical privileges for providing clinical care that requires psychiatric oversight by a physician Develops, implements, and documents treatment for a reduced caseload of patients on the secure inpatient psychiatric unit Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients Assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and properly entering diagnostic and procedure codes Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team Gap coverage and provision of triage care as required Complex case reviews, peer review and rapid quality improvement as required Incumbent is directly responsible for the clinical oversight of the psychiatrists, mental health APRN's, and Physician Assistants that are under them. Will also coordinate with any Clinical Pharmacists in their areas as well as Pharmacy service leadership as needed. Teaching and Training (considered clinical time) Provides clinical supervision and instruction for psychiatry residents and/or medical students, performs required call as appropriate as well as shared supervision of academic affiliate site directors with trainees assigned to covered areas Serves as jeopardy for call needs along with local supervisory psychiatrists, being prepared to perform in the event identified jeopardy staff are unexpectedly unable to complete this responsibility Administrative Duties: (30%) Shared oversight of acute and residential clinical performance measures Behavioral, Acute, and Residential MH prescriber Professional Practice Evaluation review, Pay for Performance, and all ePerformance related annual reviews for direct reports Participation in staff psychiatrist and other position hires Assists in appropriate assignment of psychiatric prescribers in covered areas Delegate of Authority for all Behavioral, Acute, and Residential Section aligned community care referrals and reauthorizations Interface with other clinical services including Medicine, Surgery, ICU, and Nursing services as needed Cross coverage for supervisory issues for ECH MH supervisory psychiatrists as needed Assist the Psychiatry Program Lead in the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for a team of treatment providers as needed Assist the Psychiatry Program Lead in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program, including length of stay related data and coordination with identified utilization management team as needed Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Service Line Director (or designee) and facility Director Attends regular Team staff meetings, Mental Health Staff meetings, and complies with Service peer chart review procedures Provides outreach services to veterans and family members as needed pertaining to issues related to BAR section VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
