A Supervisor-in Life operations supervises and coordinates the efforts of a team of operational staff for nonclinical regulatory and non-regulatory studies in drug development. Contributes to the hiring, coaching, scheduling/delegating work, conducting performance reviews, and determining pay/promotions. Ensures testing is completed by established deadlines in compliance with SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory agency guidelines. Monitor’s animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance.
Responsibilities:
Ensure animals are cared for in accordance with regulatory guidelines and with the highest scientific, humane, and ethical principles.
Report all animal care concerns and becomes involved in resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary.
Understand regulatory requirements (including those concerning USDA and AAALAC).
Learn the full range of performance evaluation activities and evaluate staff performance.
Address performance management issues within the team.
Assist with setting employee objectives based on strategic goals.
Identify personnel actions, such as career development and skills building for direct reports.
Complete succession planning.
Learn to develop / implement goals and initiatives.
Learn the full range of recruitment activities.
Monitor workload to track appropriate staffing levels and help with employee retention.
Interview candidates and provide thorough feedback to recruiters.
Assign workload to direct employees.
Become familiar with basic cost metrics for Animal House Operations.
Advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements (GXP).
Plan, schedule, and organize necessary resources for study conduct and assignments.
Learn how to provide, analyze and update metrics.
Contribute to the development and implementation of plans, policies, and procedures within department guidelines to improve work quality, efficiency, productivity, and expense control of Animal House Operations teams.
Assist in the conduct of routine toxicology studies, ordering of lab animals and major equipment, determining space availability, and other departmental issues.
Responsible for constructive responses to reports and questions from Study Direction, QA, EHS, client or regulatory agencies in a timely manner.
Participate in meetings, inspections, and client visits.
Learn the full range of training and learning management activities.
Ensure that staff are trained adequately and proficient in all phases of applicable laboratory operations.
Uphold training principles of a regulated environment, ensuring required training for staff members is completed and documented, including developing and maintaining training plans.
Provide for the safety and welfare of staff and support/enforce EHS policies.
Promote continual improvement of policies and processes.
Proactive interaction with internal and external clients and suppliers.
Cooperate and maintain good relationships with other groups.
Assure appropriate communication within the group, particularly for dissemination of information (i.e., study progress, facility procedures, quality, health and safety, business updates and any other departmental or company communications).Begin to participate in working groups / projects.

Experience:
Minimum Required:
3 years of experience in technician role. *
Previous leadership experience may substitute for time in role.
Intermediate Computer Knowledge
Basic Math Skills
Ability to accurately read, record and communicate information.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in inhalation dose administration.
Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses
Required:
Bachelor’s degree. BSc or equivalent or MSc required.
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education.
Recommended:
