About the Opportunity
This is an open position with Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [CEI].
This is a (mobile) remote position. The selected candidate must be located within the CEI footprint and will oversee the Cleveland area.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinating and supervising the daily activities of an Engineering team, including Layout Technicians and clerical personnel; making decisions guided by policies, procedures, and the company's business plan
Demonstrating a high level of safety commitment throughout day-to-day functions and strengthening the Engineering Services team's commitment to safety
Creating notifications in SAP and assigning work requests to layout technicians
Working in conjunction with Business Services to ensure accurate and timely billing for all work requests
Applying Tariff criteria for billable work involving service to new premises, upgraded service for existing premises and relocation of facilities, etc.
Working on creating and processing Line Extension Contracts for various types of work
Reviewing and responding to customer complaints, relative to line extension and billing policies
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Services on the progress of projects, and advising on issues that could impair the successful completion of projects
Analyzing complex issues and developing actionable recommendations
Supporting the Work Management organization on questions/issues with current and upcoming design work and various Company priorities
Executing the performance management process by providing feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis throughout the year by discussing development opportunities, performance issues, and upcoming departmental changes
Leading, educating and directing others to improve team effectiveness and communicating results and recommendations to varying audiences including senior leadership
Encouraging open, honest, direct and ongoing conversation among team members
Driving continuous improvement across the team and the company
Actively seeking and sharing own knowledge of industry trends, competitors, etc. that affect the team and/or the company
Supporting storm restoration efforts, including performing duties of Hazard Coordinator when needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or related technical discipline, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required; OR a two-year degree in Engineering Technology or related technical discipline, and a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience is required. Relevant work experience includes, but is not limited to: engineering design, reliability, system planning, substation construction and maintenance, distribution construction and maintenance, right of way acquisition, asset management, new business, joint use, etc. Advanced degree and/or Professional Engineering (PE) certification is a plus.
Previous supervisory experience preferred
Experience in process/project development, planning/analysis and performance reporting
Proven ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems on projects and/or processes
In-depth knowledge of information systems such as Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required; working knowledge of SAP, CREWS, and GIS preferred
CREWS navigation skills a plus, including knowledge of work request design requirements, material reservation criteria, CREWS billing categories, date management and lock down procedure
Working knowledge or the ability to learn the following: GIS; Construction and Material Standards; company's Distribution Policies Procedures; DOT and county permit requirements for pole sets, highway occupancy and road openings; Appendix A in Part II of the company's Tariff dealing with extension of facilities; streetlight installation and billing processes, and the company's Municipal Lighting Handbook
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to lead others in achieving goals for the benefit of the business unit and the company
Proven ability to make accurate decisions and demonstrate sound judgment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable effective interaction with both internal and external customers, and the ability to make clear, accurate and concise reports
Superior customer relations, relationship management, leadership, teamwork and managerial skills
Ability to work well under pressure
