About the Procurement Department & Technology Division:
The Procurement Department is responsible for the purchase of goods and services for the agency.
The Technology Division specializes in the purchase of software, hardware, and professional services in executing technology solutions for individual departments. With these procurements often come the mutual agreement of terms and conditions which must be met by both parties. There are a variety of methods of technology procurement which come with them specific steps and documentation. As noted, our activities are legal contractual agreements with vendors and firms which obligate satisfactory performance to ensure payment. We have many levels of administrative research, analysis and filing required. Port Authority is looking for ways to automate and streamline much of the routine administrative processes associated with the procurement process. At the same time, we have a need for assistance with documents that need organization, audit and electronic storage.
Responsibilities:
Learn what is needed to purchase technology for the Port AuthorityExplore the different methodologies and steps required:Example1: Government piggybacking is but one methodology which requires analysis of the price lists for products and services and determination is the vendor cost proposals align with those prices. Intern will be instructed on how to research and do the analysis for compliance with this procurement method.Example 2: Supporting research such as a Vendor Integrity Check (VIC) is required for certain dollar limits and/or types of procurement. Intern will be shown how to gather that information for submission to the analysts.Assist in cleaning up the backlog of agreements, which includes reviewing the documentation gathered (by buyer, by transaction) in consummating the contracts then use what you have learned in what is needed to purchase technology and audit what is present or missingExposure to our manual processesSuggest ways to automate processes, which would include a proposal and prototype of automation as a final project of this internship
Qualifications:
Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.Excellent written and oral communication skillsInterest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regionInterest in public service and/or transportationWillingness to learn
Internship Details:
The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower ManhattanThe internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)The format is expected to be enter hybrid, partially virtual and partially in-person at 4 World Trade Center in Lower ManhattanThe hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)These details are subject to change
