The Planning & Regional Development is looking for an Economics intern to join their team!
About the Planning & Regional Development Department:
The Economics Unit in the Planning & Regional Development Department is responsible for providing the agency with variety of economic activities such as forecasting, benefit cost analysis, and other functions. The Economics Unit works across all departments of the Port Authority (Aviation, Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals, PATH, and the Commercial Ports) to give economic insights into macroeconomic conditions that influence business activities.
Responsibilities:
Research region and state-level economic topics relating to transportation, environment justice, and regional demographicsCompile statistics at both national and regional levelDiscussions with relevant agency line and staff departmentsConduct quantitative research on key Port Authority initiativesPrepare analysis on topics and policies relevant to the Port Authority that are digestible for public and/or staffDevelop outreach materials on relevant topics and present research at end of internshipWrite professional level documents and emailsProvide support for other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Enrollment in a graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.Excellent written and oral communication skillsInterest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regionInterest in public service and/or transportationWillingness to learnSuccessful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research, and applicable technical skills.
Desired:
Strong interest in economics, demographics, and quantitative modelingAbility to deliver timely work productsOrganized with experience working independently on multiple projectsWorking knowledge of modeling software such as R, Stata, Eviews, PYTHON, etc.
Internship Details:
The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower ManhattanThe internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)The format is expected to be hybrid (2 days virtual, 3 days in-person at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan)The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)These details are subject to change
