About Summer Intern - Major Capital Projects, Finance & Cost Control

  Description

  The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey offers paid internships, providing students with the opportunity to work with experienced professionals on assignments critical to building, operating, and maintaining transportation and infrastructure assets in New York and New Jersey. Assignments include hands-on projects where interns quickly become part of the team and help the agency with its mission of keeping the region moving.   The Major Capital Projects (MCP) department is looking for a Finance & Cost Control intern to join their team!

  About the Major Capital Projects Department:

  The Major Capital Projects Department has overall program/construction management responsibility for the World Trade Center site, the construction of new facilities such as 2 World Trade Center, associated streets and infrastructure, pump station rehabilitation, the replacement of the current Port Authority Bus Terminal, and the construction of the two new Hudson River Tunnels.

  Responsibilities:

  Review and update project budget documents based on most current project informationSupport cost estimators through analysis of change orders and contract documentsAnalyze contractor/consultant invoicesParticipate in contract close-out processesJoin meetings with Port Authority professionals that integrate project controls and project management Develop improved workflow processesEvaluate and review expenditures related to third party agreements with stakeholders and developersAd-hoc reporting and analysis

  Qualifications:

  Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.Excellent written and oral communication skillsInterest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regionInterest in public service and/or transportationWillingness to learn

  Internship Details:

  The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower ManhattanThe internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)The format is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially in-person at One Liberty Plaza in Lower ManhattanThe hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)These details are subject to change
