The Chief Security Office is looking for a Process Improvement intern to join their Resource Management & Planning team!
About the Chief Security Office and Resource Management & Planning Unit:
The Chief Security Office (CSO) is a pivotal division within the Port Authority, tasked with ensuring the safety and security of the Port Authority's assets, including its customers, employees, and critical infrastructure. OCSO is structured into several specialized units including Resource Management and Planning (RMP), each focusing on different aspects of security and operational management.
RMP supports all departments under CSO. It assists in vital administrative functions such as contract administration, data analytics for crime and financial statistics, process improvement initiatives (e.g. automation), purchasing equipment, and managing requests for office space and vehicles. RMP is essential in ensuring that each unit has the resources and tools required for efficient operation.
Responsibilities:
Support the identification, development, implementation, and tracking of continuous improvement initiatives across the Chief Security OfficeCollect, analyze, and present data related to continuous improvement in CSODevelop resources and training to share continuous improvement methodologies Prepare reports and presentations based on findings from data analyses, customer surveys and/or stakeholder workshopsCollaborate with different CSO units to understand their needs and integrate digital solutions into their workflowsDevelop and implement digitization and automation solutions to streamline operations, reduce manual workload, and enhance efficiency
Qualifications:
Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, Power Platform, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.Excellent written and oral communication skillsInterest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regionInterest in public service and/or transportationWillingness to learn
Desired:
Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business, or a related major Interest in Public Safety career field and working closely with security professionals Experience and interest in one or more of the following areas: process improvement (e.g. Lean), Design Thinking, and/or change management Creative thinking and openness to learning new technologies and methodologiesFamiliarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau and Power BI)Familiarity with PowerAutomate, RPA, or similar toolsAbility to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
Internship Details:
The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower ManhattanThe internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)The format is expected to be hybrid, 2 days virtual and 3 days in-person at Port Authority Technical Center in Jersey City, NJThe hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)These details are subject to change
