　　The Chief Security Office is looking for a Data Analytics intern to join their Resource Management & Planning team!

　　About the Chief Security Officer and Resource Management & Planning Unit:

　　The Chief Security Office (CSO) is a pivotal division within the Port Authority, tasked with ensuring the safety and security of the Port Authority's assets, including its customers, employees, and critical infrastructure. CSO is structured into several specialized units including Resource Management & Planning, each focusing on different aspects of security and operational management.

　　Resource Management & Planning (RMP) supports all departments under CSO. It assists in vital administrative functions such as contract administration, data analytics for crime and financial statistics, process improvement initiatives (e.g., automation), purchasing equipment, and managing requests for office space and vehicles. RMP is essential in ensuring that each unit has the resources and tools required for efficient operation.

　　Responsibilities:

　　Visualize and analyze crime statistics to identify trends and patterns within the Port Authority Police Department jurisdictionWork with financial data to assess budgetary impacts and resource allocation efficienciesDevelop visualizations and reports to communicate key insights from data analyses to senior management and stakeholdersCollaborate with the security team to enhance data-driven decision-making processesAssist in the implementation of new data collection and analysis toolsParticipate in regular meetings to discuss findings and receive feedback

　　Qualifications:

　　Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.Excellent written and oral communication skillsInterest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regionInterest in public service and/or transportationWillingness to learn

　　Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Criminal Justice, or a related majorStrong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data setsProficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g. SQL, R, and Python).Basic understanding of crime statistics and financial dataFamiliarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau and Power BI)Knowledge of statistical modeling and predictive analyticsFamiliarity with PowerAutomateAbility to communicate/present complex data to a non-technical audienceInterest in law enforcement or public safety data analysisAbility to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity

　　Internship Details:

　　The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower ManhattanThe internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)The format is expected to be hybrid, 2 days virtual and 3 days in-person at Port Authority Technical Center in Jersey City, NJThe hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)These details are subject to change
