About the Office of the Chief Operating Officer:
The Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO) oversees operations at the Port Authority's five lines of business: Aviation, PATH, Port, Tunnels, Bridges & Terminals, and the World Trade Center, as well as the Operations Services Department, with the vision of being a world-class operator of world-class facilities. OCOO staff work on the following areas: business performance and innovation; customer experience; excellence in operations, maintenance, and safety across all facilities in the Line Departments; and advancing agency strategic priorities and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
The OCOO is seeking experienced interns to assist with a portion of the responsibilities across multiple OCOO focus areas. Specific responsibilities will depend on the intern's interest (which you should detail in your cover letter) and the team's priorities.
Sustainability & Enterprise Asset Management:
Support the advancement and coordination of sustainability initiatives and overall strategy development towards a carbon-free operationIntegrate the ongoing development of asset management practices into leverageable tools for the purposes of project planning and prioritization Assist in the visual development and data collection needed for infrastructure planning for the electrification of our buildings and sitesAssist with special projects and assignments as needed
Customer Experience:
Brilliant Basics:Co-lead the tracking of progress and reporting of Brilliant Basics projects to improve facility conditions, accessibility and employee spacesPrepare reports and executive presentationsCustomer Experience:Support the development of an agency-wide customer experience training program for the 7000+ Port Authority employeesSupport listening sessions or workshops to understand the voice of the employeeDraft a presentation for new hire CX trainingDevelop a communications plan to reinforce CX expectationsCoordinate training timelines for the various titlesSupport the development of CX objectives for inclusion in the objective setting guidance.Customer Experience Working GroupSupport the Program Director, Customer Experience with preparing monthly presentations, tracking follow ups, and implementing initiatives for the cross-departmental Customer Experience Working GroupResearch & Analysis:Conduct research and analysis to inform decision-making and critical initiatives that improves customer experience at PA facilities, including best practices and benchmarking, KPIs, customer experience standards and dashboard developmentAssist with special projects and assignments as needed
Operational Excellence:
Conduct best practices and benchmarking analysis to inform critical initiatives that drive operational excellence, including on key topics that impact operations such as best-in-class maintenance performance standards and key indicators, availability and on-time performanceDevelop an enterprise-level training program on Root Cause Analysis tools and techniquesManage action plan and follow-ups for the cross-departmental Energy Resilience Working Group, Emergency Operations Plan Task Force, Agency SOPs to improve operational preparedness, resiliency and hardening of the agency infrastructureSupport various initiatives related to PATH reliability improvements including data analytics, pilot innovation projects and priority track repairsAssist with special projects and assignments as needed
Innovation:
Conduct benchmarking and perform research and analysis on emerging technologies and strategic issuesDevelop memos, web applications, and presentation materials to communicate policy and analytical insights to other departments and executive managementProvide support to advance the implementation of innovative technologies and practicesSupport project managers and teammates during the life cycle of pilot projects for successful completion within timeline and budgetSupport the iHub in planning and executing innovation fairs and other activities
Management:
Support the advancement of various HR and institutional initiatives including employee recruitment and development programsDevelop an efficient process and framework to execute employee events across the COO Departments at various PA facilities and employee levelsLead the development and publication of OCOO's intranet siteConceptualize and implement various process improvements to maximize efficiencyConduct research and develop resources such as COO Department and Facility one-pagers and guidance to clarify internal agency processesAssist with special projects and assignments as needed
Qualifications:
Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.Excellent written and oral communication skillsInterest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regionInterest in public service and/or transportationWillingness to learn

Internship Details:
The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower ManhattanThe internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)The format is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially in-person (with the majority of the week being in-person) at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan or 2 Montgomery Street in Jersey City, NJ in addition to site visits and meetings at Port Authority facilities as needed The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)These details are subject to change
