  Job Overview

  We are looking for a Senior/Staff Microfluidic Engineer who is highly motivated to join the new product development (NPD) team at TE Mondragón in Spain to design and develop breakthrough microfluidic-based products for the IVD industry.

  In this position, you will lead the design/re-design, prototyping, and testing of innovative microfluidic-based polymers/plastics devices for our customers within a diverse working environment. Your primary responsibility will be to develop these devices according to the specific needs of our customers, with the goal of seamlessly transitioning the project to our new product introduction team (NPI).

  It is essential that you are a hands-on person with excellent engineering skills and a personal drive to achieve project goals in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate should also have strong technical and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with key internal and external stakeholders, managers, and project team members.

  Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers to define system requirements and work with the rest of the engineering team to establish an effective development strategy, ensuring a smooth transition to our new product introduction team (NPI).

  • Act as lead on the microfluidic consumable development; drive design, prototyping and testing of microfluidic devices; to evaluate and iterate the device design systematically to meet customer needs.

  • Develop plans that support project goals and milestones, communicate, and coordinate engineer teams to efficiently move products through the development pipeline.

  • Create and own critical product development documents (e.g. product requirement document, design failure mode effect analysis…) within ISO13485 quality standards.

  • Function as a subject-matter expert by providing meaningful technical insight to assist commercial team with customer meetings and sales activities to turn leads into projects.

  • Assist our R&D team with development of internal capabilities by providing technical expertise.

  • Trains and provides guidance to lower-level employees in specialized procedures, use of equipment, and theoretical basis of microfluidics

  What your background should look like:

  Education/Experience

  • PhD or MS with 5+ years of experience in Biomedical, Chemical, Mechanical or related Engineering disciplines.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in microfluidic field and proven track record of successful product development for the medical sector.

  • Extensive experience in designing, prototyping and testing microfluidic devices.

  Preferred experience

  • Experience in design & development of microfluidic devices for applications in cell biology (e.g. cell sorting, single cell analysis...).

  • Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

  • Experience in capillary microfluidics.

  • Exprience with biosensor and biosensor integration.

  Required Skills

  • Substantial experience with CAD software.

  • Must be able to efficiently evaluate, prioritize, and adapt multiple tasks within product development projects.

  • Must have excellent experimental design, data analysis / visualization, and problem-solving skills

  • Must be able to efficiently evaluate, prioritize, and adapt to multiple programs/projects

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with engineers, management, and other stakeholders across all relevant disciplines are required.
