Role Description
The Dropbox team is growing, and we're looking for a Staff Engineer to help shape the architecture and services that power one of Dropbox's newest AI offerings, Dash. The work will involve defining the large scale, low latency architecture that supports multiple products which touch hundreds of millions of people and a lot of data. These services support product features like search, personalization and other solutions for fragmentation of Data. The architecture handles complex use cases of several ml-based features and large scale data ingestion, preprocessing, enrichment, and knowledge extraction, indexing, and Dash's backend APIs. On top of this foundation, we're crafting products that enable people to do amazing things with their stuff across all their devices. We hope you'll join us!
Responsibilities
You will build infrastructure to handle metadata for hundreds of billions of files, hundreds of petabytes of user data, and millions of concurrent connectionsYou will build delightful products and experiences for millions, while working alongside an excellent, multi-functional team across Engineering, Product and DesignYou will help craft the direction of building capabilities for Dropbox DashYou will scale Dropbox as the data-fabric which connects hundreds of millions of the world's apps, devices, and servicesYou will measure and optimize as Dropbox continues to build one of the industry's most advanced analytics platforms to derive meaning from vast amounts of data
Requirements
BS (or higher, e.g., MS, or PhD) in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience10+ years of professional software development experienceExtensive experience building and owning large-scale, multi-threaded, geographically distributed backend systemsHighly skilled at developing and debugging in C/C++, Java, or GoKnowledge of Python a plusExperience with operating system internals, filesystems, databases, network, compiler also a plusDemonstrated skill developing low latency and fault tolerant architecture Strong communication skills and a demonstrated passion for helping others leverage machine learningProven software engineering skills across multiple languages
Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Dropbox takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, skillset, and peer compensation. We target most new hire offers between the minimum up to the middle of the range.
Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox's total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
Current Salary/OTE Ranges (Subject to change):
• US Zone 1: $229,500 - $270,000 - $310,500.
• US Zone 2: $206,600 - $243,000 - $279,500.
• US Zone 3: $183,600 - $216,000 - $248,400.
Dropbox uses the zip code of an employee's remote work location to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current US Zone locations are as follows:
• US Zone 1: San Francisco metro, New York City metro, or Seattle metro
• US Zone 2: Austin (TX) metro, Chicago metro, California (outside SF metro), Colorado, Connecticut (outside NYC metro), Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York (outside NYC metro), Oregon, Pennsylvania (outside NYC or DC metro), Washington (outside Seattle metro) and Washington DC metro
• US Zone 3: All other US locations
