  Position Announcement 

  Seeking two staff accountants to provide professional accounting services including account reconciliations, reports, analysis, training, and other various professional accounting services as assigned. Assists various campus departments with their accounting needs as assigned. Additional information about the department can be found online at https://employees.utahtech.edu/business-services/.

   

  ResponsibilitiesGeneral Duties & Responsibilities:

  Maintain professional communication skills while interacting effectively with students, colleagues, university departments and outside agencies.Maintain understanding and knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations, as well as University policies, and how they apply to the University's accounting and finance processes and practices.Remain knowledgeable in accounting rules and regulations and assist with ongoing compliance with GAAP and GASB matters.Prepare schedules, entries, and footnotes for the annual financial statements and work with the auditors during their audit of the financial statements.Provide accounting support and guidance to various departments as assigned.Assist with financial reporting and reconciling activities as assigned.Perform other duties as assigned.Duties & Responsibilities -- Staff Accountant: Revenue, Grants & Contracts:

  Assist with reconciliation and monitoring of federal grant program spending and provide reporting for expenditure reimbursements.Manage the setup and maintenance of grants with the Banner Finance system to ensure accurate accounting and reporting.Assist in the preparation of grant and contract budgets and financial reporting and ensuring compliance with governmental regulations and University policies and procedures.Work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs & Grants on administering grants.Respond to financial inquiries from principal investigators and project directors concerning grant and contract accounts.Work with external and governmental auditors relating to grant financial audits; including primary finance liaison for the University's Federal Single Audit.Responsible for accounting for and reconciling aged receivables.

   Duties & Responsibilities -- Staff Accountant: Reporting & Reconciliations:

  Timely preparation of the monthly bank reconciliations.

  Interface with various departments in reconciling and reporting activities.Understand state sales tax rules and regulations. Ensure University compliance with sales tax requirements. Submit sales tax forms timely to the state.  Assist with integration and reconciliation of various subsystems to the Banner system.Record and reconcile all activities related to University and University Foundation investments and gifts.Timely preparation of other reconciliations as assigned, including assisting with specific departments with reconciliations.

   

  Qualifications 

  Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.Two years' related experience in generally accepted accounting principles and procedures preferred.Working knowledge of data and transaction analysis, as well as preparing statements and reports, required.Strong organizational skills, capable of managing numerous projects simultaneously.Ability to work in a complex office environment, helping to create and foster an environment of professionalism, cooperation, service, and teamwork.Able to evaluate internal controls and implement changes to ensure proper control and asset protection.Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office suite and associated financial statement programs. Banner Finance experience preferred.Ability to communicate effectively and exercise excellent human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with university employ es and the public.

   

  Supplemental InformationPOSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $50,000-$54,000 depending on qualifications. Desired start date of March/April 2024.
