Job Description:
This role is for a QE Level 4, located at the L3Harris Palm Bay Campus in Palm Bay, Florida. The Quality Engineer in the Strategic Missions Division (SMD) performs a variety of quality-related functions in support of regulatory, customer, and company requirements/objectives. The ideal candidate is an expert at working with our multi-disciplined engineering teams to setup and support manufacturing production lines for high mix\low volume systems. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical and procedural challenges of building mission critical equipment and having ownership of all the quality assurance processes. They coordinate, develop, monitor, and maintain all necessary procedures, controls and/or programs to assure compliance for their assigned programs. The Quality Engineer defines the processes to be implemented on assigned programs in accordance with L3H Command Media and is responsible for Quality oversight of program activities. The Quality Engineer is responsible for proactively reporting all issues/concerns inclusive of known and potential risk(s) to the program team, leadership, and external customers as required by contract. The success of the Quality Engineer depends on process and product compliance, overall product hardware quality, as well as the product’s ability to ship to market on-time and on-budget.Essential Functions:
Provide quality service to internal and external customers while upholding L3Harris values
Conduct process quality audits and coordinate completion of audit findings to assure compliance with L3H, customer, and regulatory requirements in support of the Quality/EHS Management System
Review customer contract documents, i.e. statements of work, specifications, purchase orders and other contractual documents to identify the quality requirements of the program.
Support Operations by ensuring that products and processes comply with relevant requirements of the SAS Quality Management System (QMS).
Write, track, and process hardware related defect reports and documentation.
Reviews and interprets manufacturing drawings, diagrams, specifications, and work authorization documents to approve or reject units, test setups, or systems for in process or final assemblies.
Analyze product and process failures to ensure effective root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions for internal and external customers
Review trend analysis related to field returns, manufacturing rejects, supplier history, etc. and provide recommendations for improvement
Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma Tools
Generate BOE’s (basis of estimates) and WBS (work breakdown structures) for program efforts.
Participate as a Material Review Board (MRB) member where non-conformances are involved.
Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance the quality system in SMD, using 5S, Kaizan, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies.
Facilitate & drive RCCAs (root cause corrective action) to take “ownership” and collaboratively work with team to determine “true” root cause, thus preventing repeat defects.
Associate defects with COPQ (cost of poor quality) and quantify cost savings associated with defect reduction
Perform job in a manner consistent with established L3H Ethical standards and Safety regulations.
Plan, implement, and manage Quality Assurance program plans.
Ensure proper processes, methods and procedures are in place for inspecting, testing and evaluating the compliance of products to customer requirements and internal specifications and standards.
Perform review of supplier related quality clauses and quality documents required for procurement of materials for Strategic Missions Division (SMD) programs
Administer the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) programs.
Qualifications:
Eligible and willing to obtain a Security Clearance and retain clearance while employed by L3Harris
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 5 years of prior Quality Engineering experience OR Graduate Degree and a minimum of 3 years of prior Quality Engineering experience
Knowledge of government and industry specificiations, standards, and regulations and their application to complex systems.
2-5 years previous experience in hardware quality related roles
Experience and knowledge of AS 9100/ISO 9001 Quality systems
Ability to communicate (verbal/written/visual) effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, and manufacturing technicians about quality assurance topics in all phases of development and production.
Ability to solve complex problems and meet critical deadlines.
Ability to productively contribute work, ideas, and collaboration as part of a cross-functional team.
Preferred Additional Skills:
ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certificate.
Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or Yellow Belt
Ability to perform visual and mechanical inspections.
Develops or assists in developing methods and procedures necessary for inspection.
Experience with manufacturing in microelectronics labs and facilities.
Experience with optical systems, fiber optics, fiber optic system manufacturing
Experience in manufacturing engineering and/or design engineering roles
Experience with Naval / Maritime related programs or components is desireable.
