Position Summary
GEICO is seeking an experienced senior Engineer with a passion for building high performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
Position Description
Our Senior Engineer works with our Distinguished Engineer and Principal Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems as well as identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The Cluster Management team's mission is to bring to reality the next-generation container cluster management and orchestration platform on Kubernetes that is secure, reliable, scalable, and highly efficient. The ideal candidate has good technical expertise in software engineering, containers and cluster management based on Kubernetes, and open-source IaaS platform domain.
Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer, you will:
• Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problems
• Develop and execute technical software development strategy for the IaaS domain like containers and cluster management, while optimizing for performance and efficiency
• Own accountability for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions
• Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
• Take on-call and operational support
Qualifications
• Strong foundations in software engineering including system design, implementation best practices, and testing
• Experience with REST APIs, Microservices, and containers
• Experience in software development with at least one modern programming language, including Go, Python, or Java
• Experience with open-source platforms with emphasis on building enterprise scale applications using caching, events, SQL, and NoSQL databases
• Hands-on experience with public and/or private cloud environments (OpenShift, Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)
• Basic understanding and managing CI/CD toolchain products like Jira, Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Anchore, SonarQube, and IaC tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef is a plus
• Experience with building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
• Intermediate PowerShell scripting skills
• Understanding of security protocols and products such as: Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth
• Experience with continuous delivery (CI/CD) and infrastructure as code
• In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
• Strong problem-solving abilities
Experience
• 4+ years of professional PaaS and IaaS software development experience
• 3+ years of experience with system design and implementation
• 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
• 2+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary
$66,000.00 - $185,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
