Your Career
We are seeking a motivated Senior Staff Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our Cortex DevOps team in our Santa Clara HQ. The Cortex group specializes in analysis and visualization of complex cyber-data gathered by the Palo Alto Networks products. It combines high-performance algorithms, deep understanding of modern databases, advanced visualization and high-end UI/UX.
This role involves operating and maintaining a large scale GCP cloud including the designing, implementation, and continuous enhancement of our comprehensive observability and monitoring systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of modern observability and monitoring tools and practices. You will work closely with our engineering teams to develop innovative solutions that provide clear and actionable insights into our system's performance and health. These insights will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and availability of our services.
As a Senior Staff SRE, you will leverage your technical expertise and operations background to drive the development and optimization of telemetry, logging, and monitoring systems. Your work will directly contribute to the resilience of our systems and the overall operational excellence of our services. You must be a hands-on engineer with an established background in operations and cloud infrastructure, possessing excellent technical ability, superior communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Your Impact
Cloud Expertise - Utilize your expertise in monitoring cloud platforms to optimize our infrastructure leveraging cloud-native technologies
Monitoring Expertise - Improve monitoring processes, alerts, metrics and work with the development teams to improve their applications’ SLOs
Incident Management - Leverage the incident management processes, ensuring efficient resolution of system issues and minimal impact on services
Automation - Automate the complex monitoring and alerting tasks and processes by building tools for cloud operations such as automated remediation of known issues, auto-scaling, etc.
Upgrades - Stay up-to-date with cutting-edge technologies, evaluating their potential impact on our operations, and implementing them when appropriate
On-Call - Work closely and in full coordination with our DevOps team to provide follow-the-sun operational coverage in the production of our SaaS product
Collaborate - Work with our Engineering team and influence the operability of the product
Your Experience
Senior level experience as a DevOps/SRE engineer with a passion for technology and strong motivation and responsibility for high reliability at service level
BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent military experience required
High proficiency in the Google Cloud ecosystem
High proficiency with Kubernetes and Docker
High proficiency with Prometheus, Grafana and other monitoring tools
High proficiency in Linux Shell commands
High proficiency in Python programming
Expertise with Terraform
Clear understanding of incident and alerts management in Site Reliability Engineering
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work and coordinate between multiple teams
Ability to grasp new technologies quickly and prioritize and multitask on multiple responsibilities
Ability to effectively troubleshoot and address emerging and complex problems
Ability to operate independently, make decisions, take action and take responsibility

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $124,600/yr to $201,650/yr.
