Role
General Motors Research & Development Electrical and Software Architecture group is looking for a passionate researcher with expertise in electrical and software architecture. Our group is part of R&D's Software Defined Vehicle Technologies Lab located at the Warren Tech Center.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
You will contribute to, or lead research projects related to vehicle electrical architectures, in-vehicle communication systems, software architecture and computing platforms. You collaborate with GM's engineering teams to insert the results of your near to mid-term projects into our products. Your longer-term projects target researching, exploring, prototyping, and applying new and disruptive technologies that earn a place on our roadmaps and result in protected IP for GM.
You will contribute to or lead research projects from some of the areas listed below:
Future in-vehicle architecture and network topology proposals, evaluations, comparisons, and optimizations. Embedded systems, Real time applications, Real-time operating systems, Embedded software performance optimization, Bare metal implementations, Automotive platforms (e.g., AUTOSAR) Future in-vehicle communication systems for connecting high bandwidth sensors (cameras, radars, lidars) and computing platforms. E.g., TSN Ethernet, asymmetric Ethernet, ASA 2.0, PCI Express, and RDMA. Future networking devices (switches, routers, gateways, hardware accelerated gating). Service oriented communication and IoT protocols (SOME/IP, DDS, MQTT, pub/sub and discovery). High performance computing platforms and accelerators for in-vehicle use. Related middleware and infrastructure software. Proof of concept implementations in our R&D lab / on our electrical architecture benches. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments to grow core technical skills and competencies.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
First and foremost, you need a high level of energy and a relentless desire to research, innovate, and deliver actionable options for the enterprise.
Other than that:
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of relevant industrial or academic experience in some of the following key areas: Electrical architectures, Software architecture, Communication systems, and Computing platforms. Experience in establishing and executing projects and in creating organizational momentum around technology opportunities. Hands-on implementation experience required to be effective in PoC implementation settings and electrical architecture bench settings. Preferably, experience in working in research settings, working with academic institutions, and in publishing research results. Effective in communicating with leadership (director level and above) and peers on complex topics at different levels of technical detail. Strong ability to communicate results and progress across the organization.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Masters Degree or PhD in Engineering, or a related field.
