Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Sr. Red Hat Linux/AIX Systems Engineer to join our team in Annapolis Junction, MD.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintains a thorough and well-rounded knowledge of all Linux operating systems with Red Hat version expertise along with a solid understanding of the mechanisms required for distribution of new and upgraded software.
Writes Shell Scripts to automate repetitive tasks, manages user account information, including rights, security, and systems groups.
Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies to optimize the Linux operating system environment
Manage, configure, administer, support and troubleshoot Linux servers.
Works with senior staff to recommend and design system architecture and topology perspectives building and supporting the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) enterprise
Works closely with various IT groups including but not limited to project management, database administration, network, security, and application teams assisting in the overall architectural design
Defines and maintains server operations, processes, and procedures; service and operational level agreements and reports compliance and server build requirements as needed
Provide support and monitors performance and reporting, problem identification and resolution
Provide regular status reports, gather requirements, and provide input into the infrastructure products that are being procured and built out within the enterprise
Maintains operating system, infrastructure design documents along with SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for system administration activities
Leverage automation tools such as Kickstart and Puppet in the installation and maintenance of Server OS and configuration
Respond to service calls remotely using laptop over secure VPN
Provide root-cause analysis for recurring or critical problems
Mitigation and documentation of security POAMs
Basic Qualifications:
7-10+ years of RHEL systems administration experience, or equivalent experience
Experience RHEL 7.0 or later, performance monitoring and tuning tools, installation options, problem determination and recovery, and AIX security
Experience with IBM Power architectures, X-series and Blade center server technology.
Experience writing and debugging shell scripts in a standard UNIX shell
This position supports an IT operations environment. All employees should expect to support work on nights and weekends and may be included in an on-call rotation for after-hours support.
Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
Strong security background
Experience with Python
Docker/Kubernetes experience
Experience with NIM, satellite server and Kickstart
Experience with AIX 6.1 or later, performance monitoring and tuning tools, installation options, problem determination and recovery, and AIX security
Experience with AIX performance tuning and capacity planning
Experience with high availability architectures and concepts such as HACMP/PowerHA
Experience with Virtual IOS concepts and applications
Experience with enterprise backup/restore architectures and concepts including TSM as it pertains to AIX and RHEL
Experience with Logical Volume Manager, Storage concepts and SAN provisioning
Experience with IBM X-series and Flex System server technology.
Security Clearance Requirements:
Due to the nature of this government contract an Active DOD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain an agency specific suitability clearance is required.Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain stationary up to 75% of the time in an office environment.
Must be able to traverse between one work location to another to accomplish work duties.
Must be able to operate IT equipment such as a computer, copier, fax machine, etc.
Must be able to communicate effectively with management and co-workers to exchange information accurately.
Must be able to read, review and effectively respond to electronic as well as verbal communications.
This position supports an IT operations environment. Candidates may need to support work on nights and weekends and may be included in an on-call rotation for after-hours support.
Currently, the contract work location requirement is to work in the office at the customer’s site once weekly at a minimum. This is subject to change.
