Flexible Work Arrangements: HybridThe (Sr.) Manager/Director, Market Risk is responsible for leading and developing/working in conjunction with the risk team at PJM, and providing risk insight into PJM's markets. A dynamic leader, the (Sr.) Manager/Director, Market Risk will play a critical role in supporting the mitigation of risks in by developing an integrated approach to risk management by leveraging data from various structured and unstructured sources and drawing meaningful insights to create scenarios that could lead to potential trading abuse and/or manipulation practices in the PJM Markets. In addition, responsibilities include working with analytical team to develop behavioral modeling to capture the impact of PJMs strategic decisions that market participants could make to influence prices and increase their profits, developing potential cross product manipulations scenarios and identifying gaps in the current PJM markets where bad actors can take unfair advantage of market rules so that PJM can take the appropriate steps to make changes in their tariff to close those perceived loopholes.
Essential Functions
Demonstrate a strong background in energy and FTR trading in ISOs/RTOs/wholesale commodity markets.Interface with members, peers, management and others and provide expertise in specialized area of trading risk.Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy, ability to direct price forecasts in energy, capacity, and FTR markets.Identify potential gaps in PJM markets and spearhead small projects to implement solutions.Assist in monitoring proposed rule changes or regulatory developments that could lead to potential trading manipulation or credit riskForecast and monitor the potential impact of changes to market rules.Liaise among internal departments, markets, ops, membership, settlements, Legal and Compliance to maintain transparency when communicating with market participantsDetermines what to measure and when in an effort to inform the PJM Executive TeamRecommends compilation of data and information from a variety of sources to be used in the development of market forecasts, analytics and surveillanceCreates all market behavior/surveillance reports less collateral reports in an effort to inform the PJM community in conjunction with market analyticsReviews potential scenarios around market activity and develops indicators of potential market manipulation activity in conjunction with market analyticsInteracts regularly with PJM's Market Services divisional teams to understand strategic changes in market rules to assist in penetration testing.Through the review of market manipulation scenarios, work with PJM staff to resolve situations that may impact the PJM markets in conjunction with market analyticsCreates reports to alert PJM's internal risk team of potential concerns (i.e. unusual activity / behavior)Work closely with Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to ensure workflow is prioritized based on risk and exposure.Write, maintain policies and procedures specific to PJM transaction monitoring and provide training and guidance to analysts.Prepare supporting materials for FERC filings and contribute to FERC filings as needed, including writing and editing of transmittal letters and supporting documents.Demonstrate the behaviors and competencies that create a risk management mindset in the organization.
Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:
BS degree in Engineering, Statistics, Finance or equivalent work experience10+ years of leadership experience in a managerial/supervisory role.Strong analytical, model building skills, mathematical and software/statistical software5+ years of experience in energy and FTR trading in ISOs/RTOs/wholesale commodity markets.Preferred:
MBA, Business Administration5-10 years of leadership experience in a managerial/supervisory role.Experience with PJM Agreements and TariffsExperience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functionsExperience supporting any of PJM Committees
