What you will do
Key Responsibilities-
The Senior Manager, Engineering and Automation provides technical leadership for the specification, development, implementation, and assurance of a qualified state for manufacturing equipment in the respective site. The position aligns manufacturing equipment requirements with the site's mission, ensuring efficient and effective equipment operation meeting cost, customer service, and quality/compliance goals. Responsible for the site capital plan, manufacturing equipment asset management, and automation strategy. Manages capital appropriation approval and spending management. Manages a group including equipment (process and packaging), systems and automation engineers to deliver key projects driving business results in alignment with the site goals and objectives. The senior manager engineering and automation owns the manufacturing equipment across the equipment life cycle, including reliability. The Sr Manager, Engineering and Automation is responsible for the management of a technical team that includes process and packaging equipment engineers, and systems and automation engineers to support base business, and the execution and implementation of capital projects. Responsible for the site's capital plan, manufacturing and packaging equipment asset management, and automation strategy. Also, the Sr Manager, Engineering & Automation owns the manufacturing and packaging equipment across the equipment life cycle.
ResponsibilitiesAssign, guide, and direct engineering projects and work in support of business priorities. Ensure the delivery of compliant, efficient, and cost effective engineering solutions on-time and on-budget. Lead staff in the development of engineering solutions through Good Engineering practices and process excellence tools to deliver innovation and improved business results. Prepare, coordinate, and monitor capital projects from initiation of Capital Appropriation Request (CAR) through Project and Change Control closure. Collaborate with internal (Project Management, QA, Mfg, Tech Ops Process and Validation) and external partners/groups in support of new product launches, process and equipment improvements, automation, and other projects driving cost reduction, supply reliability, and quality compliance improvement. Develop, maintain, and implement automation strategy consistent with site goals and capital management. Provide technical support for manufacturing troubleshooting, Non-Conformance (NC) investigations, and Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPAs). Lead the development and implementation of Equipment Engineering strategies and projects in collaboration and alignment with the McNeil operational strategies and those of the Enterprise Supply Chain, including the Solids and/or Liquids Platform COE. Influence the definition of proposed projects, identification of business benefits, project selection, and realization of benefits upon project completion. Ensure compliance with technical and regulatory standards including but not limited to Commissioning and Qualification, Computer System Validation, Systems Integration, and internal requirements such as Change Control and Periodic Review of Qualified Systems. Prioritizes resources to drive flawless execution of prioritized projects. Establishes a system of equipment ownership to ensure continuous monitoring and improvement of equipment expertise, equipment reliability and efficient and effective equipment management programs. Develops and continuously improves the Equipment Engineering organization through effective organization design, training, skills and behavior analyses, and performance management of staff. Manages performance of staff personnel in alignment with site OGSMs, Tech Ops OGSMs, and Kenvue Leadership Imperatives. Promotes an environment of associate engagement and a focus on the customer/consumer. Encourages innovation and business growth through personal commitment. Forecasts and manages department budget and capital spending.
Qualifications
What we are looking for
Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical) is required 8 years of experience including one or more of equipment engineering, equipment design, automation, or systems integration in OTC, Pharmaceutical, or consumer packaged good industries is required. 3 years prior people management experience is required. Experience in an FDA/cGMP regulated industry and work environment is required. Prior experience in one or more of the following: Equipment Engineering, Equipment Design, Process/Equipment Automation, Systems Integration, Equipment Commissioning and Qualification including CSV is required. Prior experience in one or more of OTC manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, consumer packaged goods manufacturing is required. Thorough knowledge and application of equipment and systems qualification standards and life-cycle management from User Requirement Specification (URS) through Qualification and Change Control is required. Ability to provide technical leadership in complex problem-solving and decision-making; to collaborate with and influence business partner leaders with a focus on data, science, and technology is required. Ability to constructively challenge direct reports and project teams to achieve project goals and implement innovative solutions is required. Strong understanding and application of cost structures, cost standards, budget management, and benefits realization is required. Strong written and oral communication skills is required. Able to travel in and outside of Puerto Rico is required. Able to work extra hours and to respond to emergency calls that require returning to the company after regular working hours of the business. Able to support other departments and/or projects according to business needs is required. Desired Qualifications Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or Masters in Engineering/Engineering Management preferred Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Six Sigma, Lean, and structured problem-solving (e.g. Kepner-Tregoe) certification preferred. Prior experience with Solid and/or Liquid dose manufacturing preferred. Demonstrated Project Management skills associated with capital projects required. Successful management of capital project(s) > $1MM preferred.
