The Senior Energy Engineer will support assigned commercial and industrial business customers with energy engineering services. Key functions of the role include identifying, developing, presenting, and implementing energy savings projects at customer locations. This role is accountable for providing positive customer experience, for collaborating with internal and external team members, and for achieving energy efficiency performance targets to help deliver on the Consumers Energy top-level clean energy goals.
Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) for data analysis, calculations, reports, and presentations.
In-depth technical knowledge of commercial and industrial energy systems, including HVAC, electrical, compressed air, chilled water, steam, and related systems.
Knowledge of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) energy audit guidelines and practices.
Knowledge of building management systems (BMS), Building Automation Systems (BAS), or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
Knowledge of utility efficiency programs and incentives.
Strong interpersonal communications skills, communicating with internal and external customers.
Project development and project management skills.
Ability to develop, evaluate, and explain complex engineering alternatives and financial scenarios.
Ability to balance multiple constraints to achieve business outcomes, achieve results, and meet deadlines.
This role will be performed in a hybrid setting. Reporting to company facilities and customer locations will be required with remote options when possible on Wednesday’s and Fridays. However, there may be days that in person attendance is required on Wednesday and Fridays. This role will require frequent 70% travel to customer sites and company locations within Consumers Energy service territory. Travel assignments will vary from week to week and may be subject to changes with short notice. Most (but not all) travel occurs during the standard work week, Monday through Friday.
This role requires work in indoor and outdoor settings. Work locations may include industrial environments, including manufacturing areas, electrical/mechanical equipment rooms, and construction sites. These environments may feature noise, dust, fumes, flashing lights, rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment, and other specific hazards.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university with four (4) or more years of applicable engineering experience
[OR] Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited university plus Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of applicable engineering experience
Experience working in a field related to commercial and industrial energy management and/or facilities management
Experience providing customer service, managing data, and tracking/reporting work flow
Experience assembling and leading cross- functional internal and external teams, building consensus, and successfully completing major projects
Experience with operating, testing, and troubleshooting building mechanical and electrical systems
Preferred skills:
Certified Energy Engineer (CEM)
Professional Engineer (PE) in a field related to energy management
In this role, you will:
Lead energy efficiency initiatives for commercial and industrial utility customers, on site at customer facilities, in a professional manner.
Perform energy audits of customer facilities, in order to identify, evaluate and prioritize energy waste reduction opportunities.
Develop business cases for feasible projects, and present project justification to customer management for review and approval.
Prepare engineering reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, charts, and other project deliverables.
Assist customer team by completing energy incentive applications, reviewing project drawings, collecting project documentation, and supporting incentive review process.
Develop and maintain proficiency with efficiency incentives (both prescriptive and custom) and efficiency programs, and apply knowledge to daily work.
Perform feasibility studies, site surveys, load and bill analysis, equipment selection, and system sizing to support project development and implementation.
Collaborate and communicate with internal and external business partners such as Demand Side Management Product Operations, Sales/Energy Solutions, demand response program, efficiency program management, reviewing engineers, and implementation contractors to support program goals.
Serve as the technical expert on assigned projects, providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and other team members.
Support the Demand Response program by developing energy reduction plans with customers.
Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.
