  Description

Come join the exciting world of Transportation Services with TOM Strategic Yard Design! This role is flexible to operate out of Nashville or Bellevue corporate office.

Amazon’s Transportation Operations Management (TOM) organization is a dynamic transportation space that is changing how Amazon builds and operates trailer yards. TOM is seeking a Sr. Business Analyst (BA), Strategic Yard Design to help achieve our long term planning objectives specific to capacity planning and yard design.

TOM is the lifeblood that connects Amazon’s Fulfillment Centers, Sort Centers and other facilities across the network through transportation yards. More than 10,000 Transportation Associates (TA) across North America manage the critical yard space by overseeing incoming and outgoing trailers, driving over-the-road tours between Amazon buildings and shuttling trailers to optimize asset positioning. As Amazon’s Operations network scales to meet growing customer demand, TOM must constantly evolve its yard capacity management strategies and yard designs to support the growing network.

We are looking for a Sr. Business Analyst, Strategic Yard Design to own and execute strategic, cross-functional projects across all core NA network programs and consult EU and ECCF teams. This role is focused on yard design and long term yard capacity planning which directly impacts our current and future yard operations. You will lead a function that sets standards for new launch yards and work with new business units to innovate for future yard designs. You will interpret current yard operations, simulation results, and real estate limitations to develop scalable designs and improve standards for Amazon Operations facilities. In this role, you will work cross functionally with real estate, pre-construction, launch and implementation teams to drive meaningful network wide change.

  Key job responsibilities

  • Own the yard template and design standards for specific building types.

  • Enhance and maintain yard capacity models to influence future real estate site selection.

  • Leverage simulation models and innovate scalable solutions to design yards of the future.

  • Implement mechanisms to drive network wide design changes for near term and future yard technology.

  • Develop yard design solutions for TOM new business opportunities.

  • Contribute to the development and long-term vision, strategy and entitlement of TOM operated yards with respect to design and technology.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional project teams and execute complex projects across multiple organizations and stakeholders to enable the launch of new yard designs and initiatives.

  • Review and guide internally requested changes for validity and impact.

  • Write and review whitepapers using information acquired from various stakeholders.

  • Create change request and design change request to influence network improvements for our customers.

  A day in the life

Your day will consist of scoping and working on large cross-functional projects, managing project timelines and communicating to senior management on status, risks, and program design changes. You will work on model development and analysis as well as participate in discussions to develop yard design standards. You will identify potential pilot projects, develop design guidance and documentation to gain stakeholder buy-in, and guide new design standards through the change management process. You will lead internal customer meetings to understand and size business problems. You will constantly think big on how real estate and yard design can influence operations and capacity.
