About the Team
Every year, Uber spends billions of dollars on rider discounts and driver incentives. How well are we deploying these incentives? What's their impact on the market? The Marketplace Investments Science team works to answer these questions.
We are hiring experienced applied scientists with a passion for solving new and difficult problems with experimentation data and observational data. You will build out a model to simulate and understand the marketplace, uncover the true incentive performance, and inform/influence the investment budgets into its best spent.
About the Role
In this role, your day-to-day responsibilities will be centered around marketplace inference. You will:
Work on methods to extract useful signals from noisy experimentations that are biased by marketplace interference.Develop insights and models that advise incentive strategy.Produce data on incentive impacts that are consumed by teams across Marketplace and Ops.
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields. (If an M.S. degree, a minimum of 1+ years of industry experience is required, and a Bachelor's degree, a minimum of 2+ years of industry experience as an Applied Scientist or equivalent).Knowledge of underlying mathematical foundations of statistics, machine learning, optimization, economics, and analytics.Knowledge of experimental design and analysis.Experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis, and testing, and model development.Ability to use Python to work efficiently at scale with large data sets.Proficiency in languages and tools like Python, SQL, and Spark.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of proven experience as an applied scientist or similarAdvanced experience in experimental design and analysis (e.g., A/B and market-level experiments), as well as causal inferenceExperience in algorithm development and prototypingExperience with causal ML methods is a plusExperience with writing production codeStrong communication skills.Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$174,000 per year - USD$193,500 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$174,000 per year - USD$193,500 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$174,000 per year - USD$193,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$174,000 per year - USD$193,500 per year.
