  Job ID359143 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyStudent Services Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8462IN Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Summary: This position will spend time in three key areas: 1) immigration advising and student services for international sponsored students (students that receive scholarship and financial support from a governmental or non-governmental organization, such as Fulbright, and are often beholden to additional requirements) 2) international student programming 3) office-wide event planning and support Sponsored student immigration advising and student services (80%) -Serve as DSO (Designated School Official) and ARO (Alternate Responsible Officer) for the University. These are government-approved and mandated roles -Develop and maintain relationships with sponsoring agencies and cultivate an understanding of how their mission and program goals fit with the University of Minnesota -Interpret, apply, and convey complex information to internal (students, departments) and external stakeholders (U.S. governmental agencies, NGO's) on immigration regulations, government scholarship rules, and university policies -Convene specialty immigration advising to sponsored students, including specific sponsor requirements -Prepare immigration documents and forms for sponsored students for the Twin Cities and system campuses -Work with ISSS technology (Sunapsis, PeopleSoft) to ensure data and record keeping of sponsored students -Collaborate with University Colleges, academic departments, and University offices to facilitate course registration and academic advising -Monitor academic progress of sponsored students -Update and manage forms, instructions, and information materials (i.e. web, paper, etc.) -Correspond with foreign nationals, sponsorship placement offices, programming organizations, funding and visa agencies, and a variety of University central and departmental offices -In collaboration with the ISSS Recruitment Team, engage in recruitment activities toward fulfilling the sponsored student strategic plan. -Work with University finance teams to understand student account issues and help problem solve and answer financial questions -Organize programming and events for Sponsored Student Engagement, including but not limited to dinners, welcome sessions, orientations webinars, and other connection events International Student Programing (10%) -Hire, advise and train the Small World Coffee Hour student lead team -Collaborate with campus partners co-sponsoring Small World Coffee Hour on the program design, location, funding and communications -In collaboration with campus partner co-sponsors, ensure the program meets the goals of creating spaces where international students and scholars find meaningful connections and learn from each other's culturally diverse experiences -Provide training, coaching, and support to student leaders of other student programming as needed Management of events (10%) -Plan and publicize internal and external ISSS events -Coordinate ISSS staffing and event logistics, such as identifying venue, make room and/or equipment reservations, place food orders, etc. -Provide technical support at webinars and in person events Qualifications Required Qualifications -Bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least six years -U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident - due to U.S. government requirements for DSO's and SEVIS access. -Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion -Ability to clearly and respectfully communicate with all levels of an organization and with individuals from a variety of backgrounds -Ability to handle multiple tasks during the same time frame -The ability to physically lift and move supplies and occasionally furniture (tables and chairs) during the setup and take down of events Preferred Qualifications -Event planning or programmi g experience -Project management or program management experience About the Department (ISSS) is dedicated to serving the University of Minnesota's international community.
