SUMMARY:
Assesses each student's communication abilities using a variety of standardized measures for program development, develops appropriate communication programming, consisting of goal planning and program writing and implements these programs through specific therapeutic intervention. Consults with parents, teachers, and school district Child Study Teams to insure coordination and consistency of identified goals in the student's Individual Educational Plans QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in speech pathology. Two years of experience to include experience with students with autism. Requires eligibility for New Jersey certification for Speech-Language Specialist. Experience with applied behavior analysis with a team approach to planning and service delivery, solid interpersonal communication skills, and knowledge in the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication. PREFERRED: Clinical experience with students with autism. Experience with applied behavior analysis with a team approach to planning and service delivery. Solid interpersonal communication skills. Knowledgeable in the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication. Certificate of Clinical Competence and NJ State Licensure in Speech Pathology. EQUIPMENT: Computer skills including Word Processing, Data Base, Spread Sheets, and Graphing software, and commercially made educational materials (i.e., standardized tests, language programs.)
ENVIRONMENT: Employee must be physically active and be on feet most of the day. Duties may involve running and playing active games with individuals with autism (ages 3 1/2 21 years or adults), driving vans or other vehicles. Following training must be physically capable of safely providing crisis management techniques including restraining, lifting, and blocking individuals with challenging behavior. Crowded and moderately noisy conditions with children, adolescents, adults, and staff moving about.
