POSITION:Special Needs Paraprofessional
REPORTS TO:Special Education Director and classroom teacher
HOURS OF WORK:Between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. as determined by need
POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of the paraprofessional is to provide additional support in the Special Education classroom and for identified students in the general education classroom. The paraprofessionals goal is to assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning classroom environment in which all children can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist the teacher of record with instruction and supervision of children in the classroom activities, both in the special education room and in the general education classroom as needed.Work with individual children or small groups of children to reinforce new skills initially introduced by the teacher.Assist the teacher in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing skills based on the special needs and abilities of each child.Assist the teacher in preparing materials and activities that support lesson plans.Assist the teacher in administering and scoring appropriate screenings and assessments.Assist with daily activities such as classroom transition times, mealtimes, and recess.Model positive behavior.Assist with field trips and special activities.Monitor children to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.Participate in staff in-service when directed by building administrator.Help to maintain a clean and organized learning environment.Willing to provide minor medical support (such as diabetic testing and monitoring) as needed.Performs all other duties as assigned.LIMITATIONS AND DISCLAIMER
