As the use of Data Analytics becomes more critical to organizational decision making, ensuring that data and the systems that support it are rock solid becomes just as critical. Xerox is looking a Software Engineering Summer Intern interested in expanding their knowledge in the realm of data analytics and the supporting backend systems to help evolve and solidify our capability. As a Summer Intern, you will be responsible for working alongside the Xerox Engineering Analytics team on an important project to help solidify the reliability of the backend system. The Engineering Analytics Team is looking to develop a Unit Test and Mocking framework in a Python 3 based system to uncover potential regressions in existing functionality and to demonstrate/validate new functionality.
Essential Functions:
Investigate available Unit Testing and Mocking frameworks available to Python 3
Evaluate each framework and develop a proposal outlining the advantages and drawbacks of each approach.
Recommend an approach and develop the initial integration into the existing Python 3 system. Present your recommendation to the Engineering Analytics Team giving the specific reasons for the approach chosen.
Implement the chosen framework in the existing Python 3 system, including placing some portion of existing code under test.
Interface with Engineering Analytics Team for direction and mentorship.
Present and discuss the process for deciding on the chosen framework to upper management, discussing what was learned, any difficulties faced in implementing the framework and outline future enhancements as the Analytics Team pushes the framework forward.
Qualifications:
Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
Experience with Python
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point.
Familiarity with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
Familiarity with Tableau or similar Data Visualization tools a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in-person as well as remotely.
