Key job responsibilities
We are seeking an innovative, intellectually curious, results-oriented technology leader with a history of driving large-scale software solutions, leading teams in project scoping, planning, and delivering to schedule. The immediate scope to lead two big new initiatives for Amazon customers in Japan. One initiative aims to launch a program with brand new experience to help Amazon expand business to healthcare industry in Japan market. This is an end-to-end solution which requires tech team to consider local regulation, customer privacy and collaboration with external service providers, also provides the great opportunities to deeply integrate with a bunch of services/systems across the whole Amazon e-Commerce ecosystem. Another initiative is to build a series of voice-based features to help Amazon customers in Japan to better make purchase decision, and tech team will have the opportunities to innovate on behalf of our customers on top of Amazon's cutting-edge voice technology.
As a Sr software development manager you will be responsible for:
Creating a culture of technical and business excellence, strong ownership, innovation and delivery in an organization with multiple teams.
Establishing strong engineering, quality and operational standards, and inspiring the organization to continuously learn and improve in all aspects
Leading multiple teams of software engineers, testers, people managers and project managers in the design, development, test, deployment and operation of tier-1 services at Amazon
Own short to long term planning, product and program definition, construction and E2E delivery.
Knowing when to delegate and when to dive deep. Do periodic reviews of architecture, code quality, test coverage, project planning and execution, and operations to drive excellence through your organization.
Decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions that demonstrate significant creativity and high judgment. Teach others to do the same.
Be a leader of leaders. Hire and grow world class technical and managerial talent – Find and foster the future leaders at Amazon
Work closely with other Amazon organizations to deliver features that grow the business while improving the platform and driving down costs.
Build relationships and work effectively with business and engineering teams across multiple geographies.

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of engineering experience
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
