About Software Development Manager, Global Connectivity and Network Availability

  Description

  We are looking for an experienced software manager to lead a team building novel software that operates the global Amazon Backbone Network.

  Amazon’s network is a key differentiator for Amazon Cloud Computing and Web Services (AWS), enabling the global operation of thousands of applications across millions of servers worldwide. The Networking team develops and operates the network platform for all of Amazon including e-commerce products and cloud computing solutions. This platform is industry-leading for its efficiency, throughput and reliability, and it is critical to the success of hundreds of thousands of AWS customers.

  An ideal candidate for this role must have experience designing, building and operating mission critical software systems at scale, with a relentless focus on operational and engineering excellence. The leader's responsibility will include working with stakeholders to define products & their development roadmaps, utilizing modern development practices to deliver customer outcomes at pace. A successful candidate must have strong technical depth and track record of developing engineering talent & growing successful teams.

  About the team

  Our team combines software & system engineering, with science inputs to create products that enable a highly available, effectively utilized and cost effective Backbone Network. We work closely with stakeholders in Network Engineering, Operations & Design, along with other AWS software teams to ensure our products deliver a flawless customer experience.

  We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  Santa Clara, CA, USA

  Basic Qualifications

  5+ years of engineering experience

  3+ years of engineering team management experience

  Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  Preferred Qualifications

  Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  Experience in Networking Engineering or Software Development for Networking

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
