  Kindle Unlimited (KU) is Amazon’s digital reading subscription which offers members all over the world access to millions of titles across ebooks, audiobooks, comics, magazines, and more. The KU Early Life team owns the technology that powers the customer experience post signup across Kindle and other supported devices. We aim to engage new KU members in a meaningful way to make their KU subscription a rewarding experience. Our vision is to make Kindle Unlimited the most loved reading subscription by members and content creators.   We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer that's excited to build innovative technologies that define the future of reading. If you are the one that’s excited about entrepreneurial thinking, creating technology solutions for tough problems we want to hear from you.

  What you will do here: You will provide technical leadership and vision to the services and experiences teams. You will ensure that the best engineering practices are followed and that our software is designed to be responsive, reliable and maintainable. You will work closely with other teams in Digital Store and Amazon to architect solutions that will scale to hundreds of millions of customers.

  We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  Seattle, WA, USA

  Basic Qualifications

  3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

  Able to operate and lead through ambiguous in fast paced environment

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences

  Preferred Qualifications

  Master's degree in computer science or equivalent

  You have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a highly iterative, agile, and open team environment

  Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  A deep understanding of cross-functional multiple-team based software development

  A strong business and technical vision with the ability to translate these in business and technical approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet rigorous timelines with optimal solutions

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
