Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 Bandwidth Metering Team is looking for engineers to join our 11 person development team in Herndon, VA, 25 miles from Washington, DC.
Our team owns metering for all of the data transfer for every EC2 instance in the world. We process billions of records per second across a worldwide fleet of thousands of servers to delight our customers with accurate data transfer metering for an increasingly complex set of networking products. On any given day, we use Java, Ruby, S3, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB and SQL as well as other public AWS services and a host of Amazon-internal tools. We don’t expect you to the an expert in the above technologies, but we expect you to be excited about learning them!
This is primarily a back-end position, where you’ll work on batch processing problems, high availability web services, distributed systems and data on a scale more massive than most systems in the world.
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically one week every 10-12 weeks. We do get paged sometimes, but when we do your team will be there to support you and we strive to reduce our operational load by making our systems better.
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We are a team of mostly mid-level engineers who enjoy helping junior engineers grow through one-on-one mentoring and thorough but kind code reviews.
We take code reviews seriously. We believe that good code reviews raise our code quality, grow our technical acumen, and provide opportunities to share knowledge with each other. We ship code every day by operating as a start-up with a super strong support structure.
We care about career growth. We work hard to find the right tasks for our engineers so they can continue to grow into more well rounded engineers, increase their software engineering skills and give them the opportunity to expand into functional areas they are interested in learning.
Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
Our team is family oriented and values work-life balance. We’re generally always available for core hours (10AM-4PM) with start/stop dates flexible per person - some people like to start early, others like to start late.
We’re looking for a teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, values the Amazon Leadership principles and will help us build our positive team culture.
