About the Department
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago is a dynamicand stimulating place to work. We strive for the highest level ofcomplex care for children from diagnosis and treatment; provideoutstanding education and training for students, postgraduate scholars,and physicians; and nurture the research of Department scholars who seekto elucidate the causes of pediatric disease and identify promising newtherapies. In addition to our provision of clinical care at UChicagoMedicine (UCM) Comer Children\'s Hospital and at our regional sites, weare currently expanding our clinical care across Northern Illinois andNorthwestern Indiana. In collaboration with our partners in theChicagoland Children\'s Health Alliance (CCHA; Advocate Children\'sHospital, and NorthShore University Health System). CCHA hasresponsibility for the care of almost 1 million children. The Departmenthas 6 ambulatory sites and 3 inpatient sites of care across the regionwith the goal of providing care \'close to home\' whenever feasible(https://pediatrics.uchicago.edu/). Our mission is to improve the healthof every child entrusted to us, in an inclusive environment that iscommitted to family-centered care, clinical excellence, impactfulscholarship, effective disease prevention, and advocacy for theappropriate care of every child. We are especially committed to thechildren on the South Side of Chicago and to altering the inequities inhealthcare. The Department of Pediatrics has approximately 185physicians, physician-scientists, and scientists in 15 sections thatcover the range of pediatric care. Our education program serves thestudents of the College, the Pritzker School of Medicine (PSOM), 70categorical pediatric residents, 6 child neurology residents, 58fellows, and numerous graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. TheDepartment has a staff of 220 advanced practice providers,administrators, research administrators, clinical research associates,and laboratory staff. The Department has an expanding portfolio ofFederal, foundational, and Philanthropic awards, and is committed todoubling its research base in the next three years.
Job Summary
In a social service setting, assists with programs such as: childabuse/neglect; permanency planning; family-centered services; preventionof juvenile delinquency; care, treatment and education of youth;self-sufficiency assistance, employment, and related support services;health insurance/Medicaid; provider services or the location ofnon-custodial parents; and/or modification of child support and medicalsupport orders for children. Assesses the needs of individuals, performsadaptive tests and psychological screening, provides family counseling,and participates as a member of a developmental team. Defines the socialand cultural environment in which an individual\'s family exists.Develops community and University resources and makes appropriatereferrals. Identifies emotional supports needed to deal with mentalhealth issues, helps families negotiate through bureaucracies in orderto obtain financial and other assistance, and provides information tothe developmental team concerning the psycho- social needs of theindividual and their family. Ensures clients receive services accordingto identified needs. Provides clinical diagnostic evaluation andassessment of clients. Provides emergency and crisis interventionservices. Documents all pertinent information. Establishes relationshipswith various social worker departments within the University as well ascommunity agencies at the local and state levels. Provides follow-upcare as is necessary, via appointments, visits, or telep one contactwith patients, students, families, and/or public health nurses.Documents developmental care in records. Develop and present informationto agencies regarding our services. Act as resource to other sectionalpersonnel.
Responsibilities
Attend all virtual and/or in-person appointments.Conduct intake process on each patient.Compile all the reports at the end of each appointment.Facilitate any communications with service coordinators at the CFCcenters pertaining to EI, requesting all necessary paperwork.Handle billing for all patients for EI program through Qclaims.Interprets, monitors, and record client progress according tomeasurable goals described in treatment and care plan.Has moderate level of authority to refer patient, client, or familyto community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physicalillness and to provide access to services such as financialassistance, legal aid, housing, job placement or education.Plans own resources to combat social problems, prevent substanceabuse, or improve community health and counseling services.Analyzes potential problems in home or work environments of clients.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
